I read the John Jakes novels on North and South. Now you have me very curious about watching the screen version.

Screen version: North & South Miniseries Books I & II are quite good. Per usual with screen adaptations, there are story lines omitted and altered for the film version. If you don't spend all your time comparing to the novels, they are very enjoyable.

Book III was horrible, disjointed, boring and Swayze wasn't in it anyway.

If you have never scene North & South, run! and get a copy of the DVD. It's wonderful with a fabulous all-star cast.

It isn't the worst, but I did find it disappointing. Too many changes.
