Yep. Just ask anyone that was in graduate schools (esp. the sciences)
in the decade or so after the fall of the USSR.

Fortunately most of the imports were more freedom/liberty loving
than many of our homegrown malcontents.
But there were a fair number that hadn’t outgrown the time period of
1917 to the dissolution of the USSR.
