So what affords protection, mountains, etc? Certainly not the roof of the garage, right?

I’m assuming by line-of-site we mean that electronics protected by structures that, for instance, can block the shock wave of a nuke attack?

In the book he talks about people on the other side of mountains having electricity, post EMP. Not walls, but mountains and other geographical features provided protection in his scenario.
