..but judging from the questions that the Dept of Ed. posed, there is no question of what it was GOING to be.
Just a moment of historical analysis...but I don’t there was a single speech geared or built toward American school kids...up until the Kennedy era. We pretty much survived 150 years in the Republic without the President having to get involved with high school attendance and responsibilities.
The frank truth is that whatever success or failure is occurring in the American school system...is a failure at the local level. If you are truly happy...you will reelect the county school board and the state officials who fund the school system. If you are unhappy...you would fire the same folks. The idea of connecting a national agenda or a President onto this episode...is mostly a joke.
Can anyone imagine Teddy Roosevelt engaging on a national speech about high school? What about Andrew Jackson?
