GOP uses Jones to launch czar revolt By: Lisa Lerer September 4, 2009 06:19 PM EST
Republicans who have spent months criticizing the proliferation of czars in the Obama White House have finally landed a major punch.
Over the past few weeks, White House green jobs czar Van Jones has been accused of being a communist, an old lecture video showed him calling Republicans aholes, and hes been connected to a Sept. 11 conspiracy group.
With that type of paper trail, Jones would have trouble surviving a Senate confirmation.
But his czar status allowed him to skip this step: Many of the high-level White House policy advisers dont require Senate confirmation for their posts. And while liberals have hailed Jones as a pioneer in the green jobs movement, critics have labeled him a radical and hes become a liability for a White House that doesnt need another distraction.
On Friday, Republicans began calling for his resignation and asked for a public hearing into how Jones slipped past the White House vetting process. And White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs on Friday avoided addressing the Jones controversy directly, referring reporters back to a Jones statement apologizing for his affiliation with the Sept. 11 "truthers."
The Jones debacle shows how czars dozens of powerful problem solvers tapped to tackle some of the thorniest problems facing the country could continue to cause problems for the White House. By some counts, the Obama administration has about 30 czars a term used as shorthand for long, wonky titles such as Joness Council on Environmental Quality's special adviser for green jobs.

This is a war for our country on many fronts. But we cannot take our eye off the current prize. Government run Health care, in ANY form, is the proverbial camel's nose under the tent. While tweaking and tort reform are in order, we have to make sure that Van Jones is not used by the left to distract us. By all means, skewer him, keep up the pressure, but he's an ancillary battle.
Glenn Beck brought up the scene from Lord of the Rings where Gandalf confronted with a demon on a bridge stated in no uncertain terms: YOU SHALL NOT PASS!
And it’s pretty standard for politicians to avoid the specific answer for a question that’s a clear ‘gottcha’. Palin saw the game Couric was playing and decided not to go along with it.
maybe. he hasn’t been thrown under the bus yet....
Who knows - Barry is on vacation so the phone goes unanswered......
Cheap shot! Meg Whitman released a statement saying she met him on a cruise , and had lunch with him. She didn’t have the chance to pull a security check on him
If she doesn’t read any newspapers, like you said, she should have said so. She just came off looking dumb.
Father! The sleeper(s) has awakened!
SciFi reference for those of you in Rio Linda :-)
You’re showing you’re age.
Exactly two republicans have called for Jones to be investigated and/or fired, one each from the house and senate. Whoop dee doo.
I don’t make “cheap shots” that video where she brought him up and is trying to promote him to the reporters was made almost a year after the cruise.
“Michael Goldfarb has Whitman responding by saying she did not do a background check of his past over dinner and its clear that he holds views that I entirely reject. But that doesnt even cover her comments in the original video. Whitman didnt say she had one dinner with him; she said got to know him very well, pronounced herself a huge fan, then wondered whether Jones would put someone in charge of what hes doing here in Oakland. Four months ago, Whitman wanted reporters to know that she was friendly with an environmental activist who would be working for Obama. Now, Jones is a guy she met at dinner.”

Collectively, the GOP (males) don't have enough balls to fill a thimble more the two dried up peas do. And their spines look like a frick'n ampersands (&).
So far, the only ones from the (R, or Conservative) side of the political aisle putting up any kind of fight, are the women. Palin and Bachmann.
KEEP IT UP LADIES!
Sure, maybe some of the guys are starting to come around, but they should have been there from the get go, right along with the ladies.
BS. The GOP has done no such thing. Independent bloggers and radio hosts have done it. Way to right the coat tails of someone doing real work, Old Party.
When are FReepers going to understand that WE are the Republican Party. If you aren’t satisfied with it, blame your next door neighbors for not being conservative enough.
Van is accustomed to racially bullying uppity white people around. Racists often fall under the illusion that their hate is all powerful. Big mistake.
I know....that makes me laugh!
Now might be a good time to remind you as you trash conservatives like Sarah Palin and defend pro abortion liberals like Meg Whitman, freerepublic is not a republican web site.
Agreed. And, we'll have a much better chance of success with the GOP than without it.

Not defending Meg, but at least she was a successful CEO. And to try to pin Van Jones around her neck is disgusting.
Read post 70, she owns Van Jones, as a major candidate she brought up and promoted Van Jones to the media.
