The military generally takes a dim view of soldiers who decide for themselves if their commanding officer is legitimate and if his or her orders are valid.

If you are a five star general and you are driving onto a military base, if the corporal at the gate doesn't ask you to show your papers, then he is likely to get demoted.

Even a General has to show his papers. Why doesn't the commander in chief have to show his?
