Progressive Insurance Responds (Dropping Beck)
E-mail | 9-4-2009

Posted on 09/04/2009 9:30:53 AM PDT by My Favorite Headache

Just had this e-mailed to me from Progressive after I along with my entire family got rid of every policy for Progressive Insurance when they pulled out of the Glenn Beck show on Fox.

Dear __________,Recent media reports have created the incorrect impression that Progressive pulled advertising in response to specific comments made on The Glenn Beck Show, but that is not the case. The fact is that we did not intentionally place any of our advertising on the show, so when we learned that our ad had aired, we corrected the error.

Our goal is to reach a broad range of drivers to make them aware of our products and services. We value feedback on our advertising strategy, but because auto insurance is a very competitive business, we don’t discuss everything that goes into our ad placement decisions. We’d like to thank you for taking the time to express your opinion.

Sincerely,

Mary O. Progressive Internet Representative From: "Mary Oliveri"

We don’t have Progressive Insurance.

If YOU have Progressive Insurance, then DROP THEM.

It’s time conservatives stood UP to these left wing oriented companies. Put them out of business. BTW, Progressive gives you a teaser rate, then UPS THE RATE. This is what I heard from a neighbor that dropped them along time ago.

In other words, they didn’t want their ad on that show in the first place, so you can’t be upset at them pulling an ad they wouldn’t have let be on the show.

Stupid liberals.

Progressive, if my memory serves me, is a LIBERAL/PROGRESSIVE owned company. I wouldn’t do business with them if they were the last company selling insurance in the whole universe.

Pogressive (it's owner) is a HUGE contributer to Dems. The owner has also made it known he is a huge liberal. When he overtly endorsed O and oibs, I said thumbs down on his ins. even tho it is competitive.

I DESPISE Geico’s queer commercials.

The cave men have to go!

The cavemen have a homerotic ambience about them.

We don’t support homo’s or their perverted agenda.

Like Progressive, I hear they give you a teaser rate, then UP the RATE later on you.

Drop Geico too!

Mind boggling.

Same here. I’d like someone to throw a pie in Flo’s smug face. Then put the gecko out in the yard where it belongs.

Agreed...but does this play into the Color For Change - Van Jones mantra? Did the liberal boycott work or is this just a really weak sauce Progressive is pouring. She didn’t address a single thing I posed to her in the letter.

There must be two kinds of people in the world: people on whom advertising works and those who are unaffected by it. It must work since they spend such vast amounts of money on it. But I have never felt the urge to call an insurance agent after watching a lizard or a caveman commercial.

So you pull your ads from the hightest rated show in its time slot...great marketing team you got there. I however do not miss that whacko girl with the annoying voice.

Pothead Peter B Lewis is the CEO of Progressive Insurance. He has given millions to the DNC. If you have Progressive, drop them.

1) Peter B. Lewis

Chair, Progressive Corp., Cleveland, Ohio

$14,038,000 total election-cycle contributions

• $14,030,000 to 527s

$7,750,000 Joint Victory Campaign

$2,995,000 America Coming Together

$2,500,000 MoveOn

$485,000 Marijuana Policy Project

$250,000 Young Democrats of America

$50,000 PunkVoter

• $8000 in hard money

Lewis is chair of Progressive Corp., the automobile-insurance company, which he took over from his father in 1965. He has done well with it: Lewis, 68, has a net worth estimated by Forbes at $1.1 billion.

A lover of art and architecture, he has given huge sums in the past to museums and other institutions. Political giving, and progressive causes in particular, seem to be a more recent avocation. In the late 1990s, Lewis donated relatively small amounts to candidates of both parties. In the last presidential contest, he gave $500 to George W. Bush and $2000 to Ralph Nader. Apparently, his mind has changed.

Oh, yes — he’s also a known pothead. “Marijuana is, for almost everybody who uses it, a positive,” Lewis told the Cleveland Plain Dealer in 2002. This was two years after he got caught leaving New Zealand with hashish and marijuana.

This is a cop out.

"Our goal is to reach a broad range of drivers to make them aware of our products and services."

What better way to get a broad range of viewers then to advertise on one of the shows with the most viewers?

What they did is buy advertising on FOX CABLE NEWS in block form and for a slightly lower rate allowed FOX to determine on which shows it would air. They have now instructed FOX to NOT air their ad on Beck, but you can bet with FOX being by far the station drawing the most viewers they will remain a customer.
