We got an unwarranted traffic ticket from a local cop wid a beef wid us, on the way to work our very first day on the islands.
Our civilian neighbors of 4 years who just moved from the mainland, both suffered miserably in each of their new jobs and workplaces because they were haole. Eventually they gave up trying to fit in and moved home
Away from Waikiki where da locals kinda sorta have to be nice to white folks/tourists to their faces, we learned to wait and be ignored in stores and restaurants and then humbly ask if the clerks would please help us. Eyes cast down, small apologetic smile for disturbing them, slightly lowered chin and shoulders. We mastered the act of being supplicants.
We loved the weather and scenery but moved, rather than stay and try to raise a white child there. The white kids that made went native, or stayed at Punahou etc and seldom mingled wit da common kamaiinas.
I'd be happy to source it for you. ANYBODY who has spent any real time in Hawaii is intimately familiar with the term. No doubt you spent a few years in one of the big private schools. For my part it was very alive and well going back to my days in school circa 1970’s and early 80’s. The only ones treated worse than whites are blacks. Most of the bad eggs coincidentally don't have a Hawaiian bone in their body and their families haven't been there half as long as many of the white families. I'm glad you rode the bus safely around Waikiki. Next time try driving around the island. Growing up we were not allowed on fully 40% of the island without extreme caution. They've built big resorts out there now but most folk stay on the resort or the main roads. I've only got three generations on two sides though and one tangent line of actual Hawaiians. You said don't buy into the fear mongering but I'd suggest it's one of the more successful cover ups you'll find. My own family for the most part denies it out of a sense of loyalty. Go figure. It is a well deserved reputation and there should be a price to pay.
She also said the locals threw acid is the soldiers faces in off base bars.
“I grew up in Hawaii, and this is an unfair assessment. Is their racism? Sure. Are Whites targeted? Sure. But so are Blacks, Hispanics, and anyone other than the Asian or Pacific Islander group that one doesn’t belong to.”
The assessment is unfair because they target multiple races instead of just one. That’s pretty funny.
I believe you, and everyone who's posted opposite views on this thread.
Let's all take a deep breath and look back to the source: The Southern Poverty Law Center, main source for the recent DHS booklet warning of radicalism/racism "on the right."
There aren't enough blacks in Hawaii to advance the cause of black persecution, so they content themselves with advancing racism against whites (haoles), while spending some graphs justifying the same anti-white sentiment.
Hawaii, IMO, is a deeply weird place by American standards. Its main value is strategic, due to its geography, and, of course, its history. Other than than that, it's an anomaly, as is the anti-American White House occupant it supposedly spawned.
