You a right in that Americans are accustomed to individual liberty and go about there daily activities by making personal decisions. When there is a perception that there is no threat to are liberties we tend to take the position of live and let live. We expect our elected representatives to follow their oath of office and abide by the Constitution. If the representatives do not then we have a real problem because they are the organization that we elected to protect us. We are in a time now where we the people have seen evidence that many of our elected representatives are not protecting our Constitutional rights. This means that we now have to fight our own government to preserve our liberties. We cannot exert our will alone to be effective and that is why we must organize.
Oath of office for CongressI, [name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.
