Patches was crying and shaking his head up and down. I feel somewhat sorry for him as I think there is something definitely wrong with him. At the same time, it’s mind boggling really that this messed up “kid” is a Congressman. Only in Massachusetts.

Shameless vanity: I was a Councilman in East Providence, RI 5 years ago. Got to know Patches pretty well. Once, at a local nursing home where I was on the BOD, we had a fundraiser. I met Patrick at the door before it began and then he was off: for two hours he worked the room; meeting every resident with a firm handshake, looking them straight in the eye; laughing, having a ball. They loved him.
I hated to admit it - but I learned a lesson that night...
