Rather like the company in Georgetown, DC in the late 1990s that was buying up satellite transponders all around the planet allegedly to provide satellite radio programs to poor people in the Third World. Of course, people who can’t afford beans or a bowl of rice may not be able to afford satellite receivers or transceivers .... Anyway, company was owned by a family named bin Ladin. See my previous post in this thread. I think comm infrastructure is critical, but not the towers themselves. Rather the backhaul that connects the towers and the backbone that everything is connected to.

A mesh network operated by the people would be the most safe from government takeover, but I have yet to see a viable effort to create one.
