Kanjorski says Obama compromised too much on health reform (but $2 Trillion not a lot of money)

11th District Congressman Paul Kanjorski talked with WILK's Nancy Kman and Sue Henry Tuesday morning about healthcare reform. He also took email questions from listeners on the issue. Kanjorski says it's 'the burden of the President to sell, provide the information, the analysis and facts to the Congress of the United States and the American people" on healthcare reform." Kanjorski also says "I think the President may have compromised too much on this bill, in making deals with the drug companies, with the medical profession, with the hospital profession, with the insurance carriers, that he's taken all of the areas out of consideration that are necessary to get cost containment."

You can listen to the full interview here.

25 year Congressman Paul Kanjorski (D-PA) did a "radio town hall" today on the local talk radio station. The format was that listeners sent emails, and the 2 hosts asked him questions from those.

Link to the recording at the site.

Some of the highlights of the first 12 minutes:

- he doesn't have any town halls planned, because it's too time consuming. It would take a full week to have one in each of 5 counties, and he just doesn't have the time.

- regarding the recent town halls, "castigation is sport", it gives people their 15 minutes of fame, and he doesn't seem to understand what people are upset about.

- he's not insulated from the people. He's getting out to a lot of meetings that allows him to meet more people than with town halls

-there is no specific health care reform plan (then what were the Dems and Obama planning on trying to pass before the recess?)

- he voted against most tax cuts because it was not fiscally responsible. If the Clinton tax increases were allowed to stand, we would not be in the shape we're in today (in other words, Bush's fault)

- the $2 Trillion dollar difference in the revised deficit projection is "not a lot of money in terms of a projection", "it's only 10% off"

He infers that Obama is beholden to the special interest groups (which he is), but so is Kanjorski. Hypocrite.

Uh 10%? It’s gone from 7 trillion to 9 trillion and that’s only 10%?

I’m no genius but I’m pretty sure that’s more than 10% Kanjorski!
