Taliban attacks leave poll soaked in Afghan blood
Times Online ^ | August 23, 2009 | Jon Swain

The death of a youth cut down by an insurgent rocket on his way to vote defines polling day for Jon Swain in Kabul.

ONE searing image of many to come out of Afghanistan on its historic presidential election day last Thursday sticks in the mind: that of a tousle-haired youth called Hamidullah balancing on the back of his brother’s bicycle on the way to a polling station.

Only 15, he had registered to vote in Lashkar Gah, the capital of Helmand province, albeit illegally, for the first time in his life and he was eager to be the first to arrive at the polls.

He was 200ft from the football field where election staff had set up tents and cardboard polling booths when a Taliban rocket exploded, slicing half his face away. European Union observers passing in a fleet of armoured Land Cruisers ignored him and his wounded 18-year-old brother, Najubullah, and raced on.

Eventually, medics heaved his lifeless body into the back of an ambulance, leaving only his sandals strewn across the road and his black patterned skullcap next to a pool of blood.

Inflicting bloodshed is nothing new to Afghans. They endure it every day, even when going to the polls.

Why, oh why, couldn't it have been Jimmy Carter? In the passing vehicles, I mean.

That's what we need in this country--more illegal voters. Maybe he can emigrate to Chicago and work for ACORN.

We need to give every Afghan a gun and tell them to take care of business. They are fearful because the taliban have guns and the innocent do not. The taliban come into town to cut off fingers, every man in town blows their head off. Is this too simple a solution? I know that myself and at least 4 of my neighbors would shoot these effers, probably a lot more as well, but I do know that at least 4 would go to battle with me if this crap came to my cul de sac. These pu$$y talibaners are beating these poor farmers up because they have no way of defending themselves. BS I say, arm these men and tell them to defend their families. Kennesaw, Georgia, that is a lesson in arming the citizens.

Stupidity unfortunately causes problems for some.

Now that he is dead, he would make the perfect immigrant to Chicago. Dead people are the perfect voters in the wards of Chicago. Dead people vote exactly as their ACORN community organizers tell them to vote. They vote every election, sometimes more than once in an election. Yes, this kid is destined for Chicago.

bla bla bla...

I rambled earlier so I am sorry ... .... ... anyway, any and all Afghan men should be armed. A taliban shows up, shoot him, then shoot his friends. Keep doing this and soon, there will be no taliban.
