As was LTC Barker, who was called to account at a higher court before it all hit the fan. (He died in battle elsewhere.)
At the time I asked our battalion S-4 why Calley had taken the fall alone, and he explained, "Lieutenant, in the military, shit always flows downhill." I never forgot that.
