New Addington's most dedicated smoker is celebrating her 102nd birthday with a big bash.
Beatrice Langley has been enjoying cigarettes since the age of eight, and when she reached the big 100 she vowed not to quit.
She has enjoyed over 168,000 fags in her lifetime but has yet to feel any ill effects from her habit.
To celebrate the pensioner's birthday on August 27, her nursing home in Frylands Court, Hutchingsons Road, has organised a garden party to take place on Sunday.
But Ms Langley said turning another year older wasn't something she was looking forward to.
She added: "All I want to do is wind back time, but I know the lunch will be nice."
Manager Ken Easton paid tribute to the care home's oldest resident.
He said: "Beatrice is a real character and she is still as feisty as she was when I first started here seven years ago.
"You can sit down and have a chat with her and she's still really on the ball. She is marvellous."
The garden party, which runs from 2pm to 4pm, will include a raffle and food, as well as a visit from New Addington councillor Brenda Kirby.
**But it’s the process that gets me worried.**
Actually about 30% of smokers die of Cancer.. another 30% or so May die of emphysema... the Majority of smokers die of a much more mundane things like ... OLD AGE!!... and SO WHAT... those who will die of the first two aforementioned reasons, will die before reaching the age of Social Security, and will spend much less than the average OLD FART after reaching SS age.
I have to agree that ...why so many diehard Conservatives who preach limited govt.. turn in to WHINING SCREAMING LIBERALS.. all it takes is one word ... TOBACCO!!
When it comes to tobacco... the GREAT NANNY GOVERNMENT IS ALL KNOWING AND CAN DO NO WRONG...
It is actual evidence, not anecdotal.
Anecdotal evidence would be that busybodies tend to die young because they go through life agonizing that somebody, somewhere, might be having fun.
My father died from a bad fall when he was 92. Open pack of Pall Malls and a zippo next to his chair by his ash tray.
My "process" will be knocking off as many nanny-staters as I can before the SWAT team gets to me.
She’s 102 years old and this is the ONLY thing they could find publishable about her? sheeeeesh
(LC taking a bow)
You're making the false assumption that any conservative who appreciates the dangers of smoking is a nanny-state liberal who wants to deprive smokers of their pleasure. Not true at all. Whether smokers should be persecuted by the government and whether smoking is good for you are two completely different propositions.
“For each of these cases, there are thousands who die in their 60s due to smoking.”
So you believe in global warming, as well, since it is exactly the same kind of pseudoscience that proves smoking causes disease as proves global warming. All bunk.
Hope you are happy with your government “high priests” of fear.
Hank
**Whether smokers should be persecuted by the government and whether smoking is good for you are two completely different propositions.**
NEITHER is ANY of your CONCERN.
As for the False assumption, it’s totally correct, ever since Clinton’s Surgeon General released her REport saying that 2nd hand smoke was More dangerous than 1st hand smoke. So many usually decent Conservatives fell for it hook line and sinker. and all the LIberal Nanny staters did.
And YES, as per your previous statements... Your a Tobacco Nazi or a Cigarette NANNY STATER. Which makes you no better than a liberal..

Anecdotal evidence
(2) Evidence, which may itself be true and verifiable, used to deduce a conclusion which does not follow from it, usually by generalizing from an insufficient amount of evidence. For example "my grandfather smoked like a chimney and died healthy in a car crash at the age of 99" does not disprove the proposition that "smoking markedly increases the probability of cancer and heart disease at a relatively early age". In this case, the evidence may itself be true, but does not warrant the conclusion
Inquiring minds want to know.
7%. That is seven out of one hundred smokers gets lung cancer.
Where did you find that figure? Many years ago I got the figure 7% from the American Heart and Lung Association but I have found it very difficult to find any published statistics anywhere in the last ten years.
The coroner will report to the NHS "he would have survived his bullet wounds if he wasn't a smoker. CoD - smoking."
Thanks for the ping!
Better get those cigs away from her quickly. They are going to kill her. lol
You don't know what the hell you're talking about. My own health, and my right to speak about it, ARE most definitely MY concern. If you want to smoke, go for it. I enjoy my constitutional right to free speech and no half-wit jackass is going to tell me when and where to exercise it.
Some tobacco Nazi walked up to me in a bar one day and said “Don’t you know that second hand smoke is killing us?” To which I replied, “That’s what I’ve been hoping.”
LOL To which you could add “I’ve been looking for a faster method. Got any suggestions?”
