How to find a town hall meeting near you
CNN ^ | August 13, 2009

With Congress on its August recess, lawmakers are back in their home districts to meet with their constituents.

Across the country, members of Congress are holding town hall meetings where voters are encouraged to voice any questions or concerns about what's happening on Capitol Hill.

Health care reform has dominated the conversation at the meetings. President Obama has called on Congress to pass legislation this year, but lawmakers are hearing from their constituents that they want more specifics on what reform will mean for them.

In addition to taking questions, lawmakers are trying to set the record straight and put an end to the spread of misinformation.

Many town hall meetings are open to anyone. If you're interested in attending one, you're not alone. More than 70 percent of people say they are either very likely or somewhat likely to attend a town hall on health care, according to a recent CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey.

To find a meeting near you, determine who your senators and representatives are. You can find this information on the House and Senate Web sites.

Some lawmakers have information about their town hall meetings clearly listed on their Web sites. Democratic Rep. Jared Polis of Colorado, for example, has an "events" section detailing the time and location of his upcoming meetings.

Democratic Sen. Russ Feingold of Wisconsin has a section called "listening sessions." It links to a map that shows where the meetings are by county.

Republican Rep. Steve King of Iowa lists his August meetings under the "latest headlines" section of his Web site.(continued)

My Republican senator has her schedule posted and easily accessible at her web site. My Democratic senator has nothing other than the current day’s schedule. It’s like he doesn’t want to give his constituents a heads up.

Darned few of ‘em are — the majority are still hiding - either huddling in their homes not answering the phones, or off overseas on ‘fact-finding’ junkets....

Ah, well - it’s CNN.....

That's about 200 million citizens. Well, it's as accurate as any other statistic on CNN.

I think we're going to need a bigger room.

My Congressman Mike Ross had a TH meeting Friday and it was standing room only. He spoke for the first 20 minutes and it sounded like something out of a Ronald Reagan hand book. I couldn’t believe my ears because just a few months ago he was praising the name of Nancy Pelosi in the local News Paper. Anytime he started to travel to the left the crowd turned against him. There were a few there that appeared to be ACORN types who cheered when he said anything with a liberal slant but they were few and far between. Overall I was impressed because the area I live in is 75% solid Democrat.

Chet Edwards (D-TX) runs from a conservative district, barely survived last year. He has decided not to have any “town hall” meetings (running from the constituents). They showed up at his office this week, with signs, etc. You can’t hide forever.
