House Democrats ask for civility at town halls By Mike Soraghan Posted: 08/15/09 11:18 AM [ET] If Rep. Betsy Markey (D-Colo.) gets confronted by Tea Party Patriots next week, she'll counter with a patriot of her own.
Markey's staff will be handing out a copy of George Washington's Rules of Civility and Decent Behavior to everyone at her public events.
Its her effort to cool down the boiling debate, with a deliberate nod to Tea Party Protesters, some of whom don tri-cornered hats and carry "Don't tread on me" flags to protest the Democrats' health care plans.
If you're going to have rules of civility, who better to get them from than George Washington? said Markey spokesman Ben Marter.
Trying to avoid becoming the next deer in the town hall headlights on cable news, some lawmakers have cancelled the gatherings, or opted for the convenience of telephone town halls.
But others are plunging into the fray. Still, they're looking for ways to head-off the outbursts, heckling and even fisticuffs that have punctuated many of their colleagues' gatherings.
But the activists who oppose health reform say the problem isn't the fervor of the people at the meetings, it's the lack of answers.
The problem is that they're not answering the questions that people are asking, said Amy Kremer, national coordinator for the Tea Party Patriots.

Ghost of Philip Marlowe adopts Obammie the Commie’s request to...
GET IN THEIR FACES.
There ought to be some footage from the Bush years with the wack jobs from code pink and acorn, that makes a great rebuttal.
The Rats are just trying to pacify everyone till they can ramrod this through in September.
It was so much more fun to call Bush every dirty name in the book.
Full speed ahead, get in their faces, politely.
Translation: Sit down , shut up and let us lecture you on how the government should control your health care.
Simple: Stop lying and stop pushing us towards socialism. Then, the politicians can expect our being civil.
If we only had a free press in this country, the hypocrisy of the Left would be exposed.
Start listening and providing answers! WE are NOT by NATURE loud or in your face. It is NOT the way we like to do business. But when YOU ignore us, VOTE opposite of what we tell you we want, and then INSULT us when we try to have our voices HEARD, YOU LEAVE US NO CHOICE!!
This is the same represenative who was hiding, with no town hall meetings scheduled, untill citizens she represents set one up on their own.
Then, all of a sudden, this sleeze bag releases a town hall schedule.
while they take away our freedom.
“Evil Mongers”
“Political terrorists”
“Racists”
“Un-American”
“Paid off”
What else have they called the protesters?? And then they’re the ones calling for “civility”??
Civility? Oh sure. Like killing babies and old people is civility.
Babies can’t get in your face and shout you down. But seniors can still fight for their lives.
You don’t like the hostility? Then stop your barbaric killing.
Keep up what you're doing now, we'll move on to the next Amendment.
If I wanted to listen I'd stay home and watch TV. When someone goes to a town hall they want to TALK to their representative.
They didn’t ask for civility when their minions were demonstrating in the streets. They stood by and didn’t ask for civility when President Bush was being called a nazi. They didn’t ask for civility when American soldiers were being called terrorists by Liberal Democrats.
Hypocrisy anyone?
IMHO

Americans ask for Civility from Congress.....
Read the Bills.
Quit taking money from Lobbyists.
Quit Spending money YOU/WE do not HAVE.
Lower Taxes.
and Finally...
Read the Bills you vote for. More than once...we do.

Good translation job.
