Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele burst out laughing Wednesday after watching a clip of Sen. Arlen Specter (D-Pa.) insisting that the town hall protesters are not necessarily representative of America.
Asked to respond to the clip during an interview with Fox News Neil Cavuto, Steele had to gather himself just to answer the question.
Im sorry, Im laughing, Im sorry, Steele said as he tried to respond to Specter.
Not representative of America? Well, then who are they representative of? Steele asked. This is part of the craziness that were hearing from the left on this issue. Theyre trying to obfuscate the fact that the American people ticked off, as one of the participants said yesterday, and theyre very concerned.
Steele then turned his fire on President Barack Obama and the White House, whom he accused of stacking a town hall audience in New Hampshire Tuesday with supporters.
Youve got the president, who has a town hall meeting, and we applaud him for that, and then [White House press secretary Robert] Gibbs comes out and talks about how peaceful and respectful it was, Steele said. Yes, its great when you stack the room. I mean, its not the hardest, its like you have this line that you have to get into to get in.
As the RNC chairman was accusing the White House of stacking its audience, he also dismissed charges from some Democratic lawmakers that the GOP is guilty of the same.
Anyone out there who says that the Republican Party or state parties or Republican activists are out there doing that are flat-out lying. Theyre wrong, he said. We are not bussing in folks like the Democrats are with SEIU members. Were not coordinating the messaging and trying to disrupt these processes.
Steele also blasted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) who called the protesters un-American in an op-ed Monday in USA Today.
Theyre being distinctly American, Steele said of the rough town hall audiences. Theyre being uniquely American, in expressing openly their frustration with what they hear their political leadership saying.

Good for him. Keep it going!
Specter is a sad individual. He betrayed everyone and has no friends left
For laughing on national TV, +10000000 to Steele, I have been waiting for a politician to do that.
Ducks in a barrel.
We control politics, they are running for the hills!HEHEHE!The are totally freaked out!
ping
I don’t think I have enjoyed a moment of political theater as much as I did when Specter admonished his constituents in a feeble, blue-blooded arrogant voice only liberals seem to be able to muster: “I don’t have to be here...”
I loved the silence for a second or two, when the whole group realized what he was saying and jumped on him at once: “YOU WORK FOR US!”
Priceless. Simply priceless. It was like someone who is thinking some secret thought, only to realize they just blurted aloud what they really think!
What a dumbass. I cannot believe they will elect him again.
Our Loon Sphincter is THEIR Loon Sphincter now! He needs to retire.
The worst thing you can do to a liberal is humiliate and ridicule them. I mean that was perfect what Steele did. Just perfect. We need to do more of that. Be self-assured, get off defense and act as if the entire American population is behind US and not them.
Who is this Steele guy?
Was he the one hiding under the bed for the last couple of weeks?
It might not even be Specter. Sestak is running to the left, hinting that he’ll vote to ram Deathcare through, to get the lib voters. The way things are going, I think Toomey would slaughter him.
Color me unimpressed by Steele’s performance so far.
I’m sorry, but Steele has to do a better job. Laughing at this only implies that he’s not serious. The GOP should have hired Tom DeLay as its Chairman.
I think Steele has hit on something. Instead of angry shouts, let’s try uncontrolled flat out laughter, like in the Old Days here when people got tired of LOL and would say ROTFPIMPLOL.
Alinsky says ridicule is the most effective tool, let’s pour it on when a dem says “but you get to keep your insurance, if you still like it after we’re done with your provider”.
Good for Steele!
Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake. Best thing for Repubs to do was sit back and let the Dims self-destruct for a while.
If Republicans had jumped in and taken the microphone last week, it would have given the Dims an opportunity to make it about them. Now that the Dims have pissed off their constituents and discredited themselves, now it’s time for the Repubs to swoop in and offer a better plan.
...I hope they have a plan. Of course the best “health care plan” will be to get the government’s paws OUT of health care. But will anyone in DC have the guts to say it?
