Considering that the Yankee government prevented Maryland legislators from voting on secession (would have passed), I’d say they’ve always had the spirit.

As a conservative resident in a blue state, reading this thread gives me some hope. Maybe I won’t have to relocate to a cave in a red state! Still a way to go, though as Maryland, the FreeState, ranks 50th, on personal freedom. Oh, the irony.
