WASHINGTON – A committee that investigated VIP mortgage deals for Democratic Sens. Chris Dodd and Kent Conrad has cleared both of them of breaking Senate rules.

The Select Committee on Ethics tells Dodd of Connecticut and Conrad of North Dakota in separate letters that it has found "no substantial credible evidence" that their Countrywide mortgages broke Senate gift rules.

It took a year and then it is released on a Fry, in the middle of summer (when no one is paying attention), and on the day that Congress goes on recess.

No political calculation here folks, move along, nothing to see.........

A majority democrat senate committee has cleared a couple of democrat senators of wrong-doing.

Ethics committee is not democrat majority -- three of each. D's are Boxer, Pryor & Brown; R's are Isakson, Roberts & Risch.

I stand corrected.

I lost track of the fact that where the “ethics” of personally profiting from one’s elected position are concerned, a senator is a senator is a senator.

REALIST: No matter. The voters of Connecticut know exactly what they put in the senate and will do it again.

Taking a genuine stand for limiting the powers of the federal government would probably be a good place to start.

They’d censure you, impeach you and throw you out on your keister in a “new york minute”, as they say, for engaging in such talk on the senate floor.

I agree. I had thought of adding “or the interpreters of the Senate rules are crooks, too,” but got lazy and pressed Send.

Yes. So we’ve got that going for us... which is nice!

I’m sure they felt the awful sting of that “rebuke” for almost as long as it took to read the paragraph in which it was contained...

Is there any reward for turning in tax cheats to the IRS?

Or is that only for the “little people”?

Then it follows that there are no Senate rules and they have no ethics in any true meaning of the word. Sheesh, under those rules, William Jefferson, convicted Democrat from Lousiana, would be innocent too.

I guess they don't honor FRiends of Angelo anymore... altho they still pumped a pile of dough to Congre$$ critters before and after the "Bail-Outs".

They didn’t violate Senate rules; naturally, because Senate rules are rigged in favor of bribes, kickbacks and other such corruption. Did they, however, violate criminal law?

Of course. But good luck with the Dept of Justice.

However in the Letter the Ethics Committee stated that red flags should have triggered closer consideration of a loan named: VIP and compelled them to find out what that stood for, as both played dumb as well as did not know Angelo..was just a quicker loan, that's all.

Also stated was at the conclusion
the Committee has never offered any guidance to securing like loans.

Just like Insider Trading (early awareness of deals)
in Washington has no rules or regulations.

When Martha went to jail...those rules did not pertain to the Washington government insider. Just like health care offered taxpayers(and non taxpayers) will not be shared by GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES.

Dodd’s money comes from the outside, not within the state. Just doesn't seem right somehow. I tend to believe, Dodd will not be down to a celebratory breakfast the morning after the elections.

After distancing himself from lobbyists in campaign ads, Sen. Christopher Dodd (D-Conn.) was on Martha's Vineyard July meeting with some of the most well known names on K Street. It was reported that:(The Hill)
http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/after-bashing-k-street-dodd-mingles-with-lobbyists-2009-07-19.html

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) hosted its annual weekend retreat this weekend at the high-class getaway. Designed for candidates to meet with senators for campaign advice and policy guidance, several high-powered lobbyists also attend and network with lawmakers during the retreat.

Nothing changes..
