One major problem (or two) is that (a) so many Repubs in DC seem to be eager to capitulate and (b) the thuggery in campaign and elections will only intensify. Any Rs (what to to speak of conversatives) will have to win by landslides to overcome the dirty tricks.

I'm not as confident of that as you are. Swine Flu or the Heebie Jeebies, may cause a postponement of the fall 2010 elections. Although more likely "who counts the votes" will turn out to be decisive in that election.
