Fewer people still have jobs to lose.

Hey, let's be positive, this could also mean that those who have jobs are KEEPING THEM.

"This is going to be a seriously blue Christmas"

oh yes, I've been saying for a couple of months now that he you know what is going to hit the fan this Christmas Shopping season. That is when the small retailers are going to get clobbered and all this happy talk meets the real economy.

6,310,000 drawing benefits say at an avg. $325/week would be > $2 Billion per week. WOW

NY is now offering a third round of unemployment benefits. After all, Mayor Bloomers wants to be re-elected.

This is headed the same way as the "temporary" assistance given to the Katrina moochers and will end up the same way as the "temporary" assistance provided through welfare and housing programs.

How long before it becomes a life-long "right" to draw unemployment compensation?

Once the Mayoral and Governer’s race is over, the extensions will cease.

It is surprising and startling to see that the number of ill-informed articles in the WSJ seems to be increasing.

See this link:

Seems like an opportunity for IBD, which is writing better and better articles and showing itself far more investigative and better informed.

Initial claims for jobless benefits fell by 38,000 to 550,000 on a seasonally adjusted basis in the week ended Aug. 1, the Labor Department said in its weekly report Thursday.

So 550,000 Americans lost their jobs, and this is how it's reported. OTOH, here's how a GDP gain of 2.9% and 4.8% was reported when we had a GOP President and Congress.

“Jobless rate dips”

Bullshit. Obama is playing with the numbers.

So, you’re saying the dip from 9.5% to 9.4% is an illusion?

One reporting cycle does not a trend make. Let it drop several cycles in a row and then they can start crowing.

I’m saying it’s fudging of numbers. The UE rate is based on a poll. And as we all know, polls are manipulated.

The illusion is that the job market/economy is getting better...it’s not.
