I just stumbled into a whole mess of support for the idea that the coastal province sought autonomy and was very fearful of being incorporated into the country of Kenya.
More than is in those threads.
This status only lasted at most 6 month but it covers the time in question for the doc.
There’s still no support at all for the idea that the country of kenya considered itself a republic at the time, but for this 10 mile coastal strip yes. I haven’t heard or come across this province calling itself “Republic of Kenya” yet, but they did seek autonomy and wanted their flag side by side with the country one.
Anyway it’s really confusing and hard to sort out what is going on with this strip... The country of Kenya didn’t agree with what was going on there at the time, the president of the strip was essentially the leader of the rebellion against the main kenyan govt... and it was protectorate of Kenya leased from zanzibar but still governed by kenya even though it isn’t technically within the bounds of kenyan territory... what a mess

Interesting.
I would think that this territory would've had its own name for itself, something other than "Kenya."
Of course, if they DID somehow call themselves "the Republic of Kenya," that would change the ball game.
No evidence so far, but I'm open to it.
Keep in mind that the document in question is from 1964, not 1961
