Ted Cruz and Mike Lee Warned You (And Sarah Palin, too)

RUSH: You know, the... No, no, no. What’s interesting about that is like Kay Hagan, Democrat senator from North Carolina. All these Democrat senators now want to be exempted from all the fallout of this. There are 13 of ‘em, a baker’s dozen. They knew when they voted for this. I don’t think they deserve to be let off the hook. The Democrats that now want this all delayed — they want the individual mandate delayed — they want things delayed ‘til after the 2014 election.

They’ve trooped up to see Obama. Folks, they knew. Everybody knew that you were going to lose your plan. They knew it, and they’re lying if they’re now acting surprised and acting like they didn’t know it. They did know it! They were just being loyal to Obama, being loyal to the party, not their voters — and now they want a do-over. I think is a point needs to be drilled home. Every one of these senators now crying and whining, they knew what was in store for people.

You probably have heard that a million Californians have lost their policies. It’s in an AP story. You have to read to the last paragraph to find that out, though. That’s so far. That’s right, just a million so far. “Health insurer Anthem Blue Cross of California has agreed to a two-month extension of about 104,000 individual policies after failing to give the required 90-day cancellation notice, state Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones announced Tuesday.”

That’s how this story on a million people so far being canceled begins. “The policies had been set to expire on Dec. 31 but will be extended until Feb. 28 for those who choose to re-enroll. Notices informing customers of the extension will be sent out this week, Anthem said. ... More than one million cancellation notices have been sent to Californians as [Obamacare] begins allowing individuals to buy insurance through exchanges...” Not “allowing,” requiring!

Sorry to be yelling. I know it scares a 25-year-old woman out there, but this is just... More than one million cancellation notices have been sent to Californians as [Obamacare] begins allowing individuals to buy insurance...”? Why are they being canceled, AP? What do you mean, “allowing individuals to buy insurance through the exchanges”? This is mandatory! Have you ever heard of the individual mandate? They’re being canceled, and this is just the beginning.

As I said, wait until people who get their health insurance at work start losing their policies starting in January. Right now we’re just talking about the individual market — and now, by the way, there’s no way the website’s going to be fixed by the end of the month. Everybody involved is admitting that, and now there’s a drop-dead date of this Friday. That’s the “de facto deadline” before Democrats defy Obama and back the Republicans’ fixes for Obamacare.

“CNN Chief Congressional Correspondent Dana Bash told her network’s anchors on Tuesday that the end of the week is the ‘de facto deadline’ at which point the White House needs to have settled on a series of fixes to address the crisis of Americans losing their health coverage. After Friday, Bash reported, House Democrats are going to be backing GOP proposed fixes to [Obamacare] against the wishes of President Barack Obama’s administration.”

Now, this doesn’t even talk about the 12 senators. She’s talking about House Democrats. Now, folks, I want to take you back to Ted Cruz and Mike Lee a month ago. They were trying to warn people what was coming. They were trying to get people back then to delay this, to defund it, to prevent this that’s happening from happening. They knew it was coming, as did every other elected official. Everybody in both parties knew this was coming, folks.

Do not doubt me on this.

Everybody knew.

Obama knew.

These 12/13 senators asking for a do-over knew. The House Democrats, everybody knew. They voted for it, and they need to be reminded of that, and they knew this was coming. But back when Ted Cruz was leading the effort, what was being said about him? “Well, he’s a terrorist! Well, he’s holding people hostage! He’s demanding ransoms! He’s an extremist.” He was right, and he was one of maybe two or three people who had the guts to go public and tell people what was headed their way.

He was one of two or three only had the guts to warn people what was coming and tried to do something to prevent this. Ted Cruz. You go back, thinking what kind of names he was being called and the insults being tossed at him and Mike Lee and everybody involved in that effort, just a month ago. Now the very people who were throwing those insults out — accusing him of being a terrorist, accusing him of wanting to take hostages and ransoms and so forth — are now the people begging to be exempted!

They’re begging for the rules to be changed, begging for there to be a delay so that they’re not negatively impacted. They knew this was coming. They voted for it. This is the kind of stuff that ticks me off. These guys, the pioneers take the arrows, and they were right on the money about it, and they are owed an apology. They are owed an apology from the Republican establishment. They’re owed an apology from Obama. They’re owed an apology from the media because they called it.

They predicted this.

Ted Cruz and Mike Lee and everybody involved in their effort was trying to prevent what is happening now from happening. All they wanted to do was defund it or delay it so that this wouldn’t happen, so that you wouldn’t begin losing your policy. That’s all they wanted to do. They knew you wanted to keep your policy, and for that they were insulted. They were impugned, they were attacked, and everybody in the Washington establishment from both parties, tried to destroy them.

We’re coming up on the holiday season, as you know, Thanksgiving and Christmas, and what’s Obama thinking about now? Not Merry Christmas. No way, folks. Obama’s thinking about merry cancellations. (playing of parody) That’s right, my friends, and that’s probably the way the Regime is going to try to deal with this is buy you off. So we have a drop-dead day. The Democrats are threatening, according to Dana Bash, to line up with the Republicans on Friday if something isn’t done.

Ted Cruz and Mike Lee tried to warn everybody. So did we here. We were on board with Lee and Cruz. We knew what was headed our way. You knew what was headed your way. So did the people who voted for it, and now everybody’s in the CYA mode, and it is obvious. Well, I don’t want to jump the gun, but there’s Republicans talking, “Well, we knew this was blown implode,” and we’ve got some Republicans now saying this could be the end of liberalism.

The end of liberalism? What do you mean, “the end of liberalism”? You can’t just sit by and have the end of liberalism happen! You’ve gotta join the fight and bring it to a close, screeching halt. End liberalism? Because it’s gonna implode? All Obama’s gotta do is get legislation passed for one-time subsidies for everybody that lost their plan, and liberalism’s just fine. BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Ray in Providence, Rhode Island. I’ve got 30 seconds, and you had a good point and I wanted to get to you.

CALLER: You were talking about those with courage to speak out against Obamacare like Ted Cruz and Mike Lee, there’s one person, the granddaddy, actually, the grandma of all public and outspoken Obamacare critics. The first one, going way back to the beginning, is Sarah Palin, in 2009, when no prominent Republican was publicly criticizing Obama. And look how she got hammered. But, boy, if anybody deserves an apology and praise for being prescient, it’s Sarah Palin.

RUSH: Well, it’s a good point. She was the first to identify the death panels. And you are absolutely right. That is why I, whenever these people, I don’t care if it’s Cruz, if it’s Mike Lee, if it’s some conservative media people, I always try to defend these people because the assault is not on just them. It’s on everything they believe and everybody who agrees with them. But you are right, she was the first to identify the death panels. Mike Lee and Cruz were actually specifically trying to alert people we should stop Obamacare because of this particular thing, losing your policy.

Obama tells supporters to fight ObamaCare ‘misinformation’ - talk it up at holiday parties The Hill ^ | November 18, 2013 | Justin Sink Posted on November 18, 2013 at 11:09:59 PM PST by Cincinatus' Wife President Obama told supporters Monday night that he needed their help battling against “a lot of misinformation” spread by political opponents about his signature healthcare legislation. Speaking on a virtual conference call hosted by Organizing for Action — the political group born from his reelection campaign — the president admitted that problems with the ObamaCare website had put a damper on early enrollment efforts. “The good news is it’s getting better every single week,” Obama said. “I am confident that by the end of this month it is going to be functioning for the vast majority of folks.” The president conceded that the botched rollout “created and fed a lot of this misinformation” about the law. He said that some individuals would still need to be enrolled by phone or in person, even after repairs to the website were complete. And he accused Republicans of complicating efforts to get the program off the ground. “Obviously, we haven’t been getting a lot of cooperation from the other party,” he said. Obama encouraged supporters to talk face-to-face with neighbors, friends, and family members about the law. He also suggested that proponents of ObamaCare should use holiday parties and family gatherings to encourage their loved ones to purchase insurance. “We have to remember the conversations we’re having around the dinner table,” Obama said. He also thanked his backers for their support during the trying early weeks of the ObamaCare rollout. “Despite all the noise out there, despite all the criticism, despite all the setbacks that we’ve experienced during this process, I’ve never lost faith,” he said, adding that his supporters were “what keeps me going.” Despite the president’s assurances, his tone throughout his 12 minutes of remarks was noticeably subdued — an issue amplified by a scratchy phone connection that made it, at times, difficult to hear the president. Many reporters struggled initially to join the call because of buffering issues with the website, an ironic twist considering that a purpose of the teleconference was to downplay problems with HealthCare.gov. Still, OFA executive director Jon Carson announced that over 200,000 individuals had accessed the teleconference. The president also took a brief detour from discussing his signature health care law to denounce a move by Senate Rpeublicans to filibuster the nomination of Robert Wikins’s nomination to the D.C. Court of Appeals. Obama blasted the move as “obstructionism” and “completely unprecedented,” while hinting that the fight "may get more attention" in the coming weeks. That could indicate that Democrats are steeling for another battle over Senate filibuster rules. Following a similar filibuster of Rep. Mel Watt (D-N.C.) to oversee the Federal Housing Finance Agency, Vice President Joe Biden said it was “worth considering” the so-called nuclear option. Democrats could change the upper chamber’s rules so that only a simple majority was necessary to confirm nominees.

“Thousands of Doctors Dropped by Insurer After Obamacare Funding Cuts”
Posted 11/16/2013

SNIPPET: “from Newsmax – UnitedHealth Group has dropped thousands of doctors from its networks in recent weeks, leaving many elderly patients unsure whether they need to switch plans to continue seeing their doctors, the Wall Street Journal reported Saturday.

The insurer said in October that underfunding of Medicare Advantage plans for the elderly could not be fully offset by the company’s other healthcare business.

The company also reported spending more healthcare premiums on medical claims in the third quarter, due mainly to government cuts to payments for Medicare Advantage services.”

“Healthcare.gov ‘may already have been compromised,’ security expert says”

Published November 19, 2013
FoxNews.com

SNIPPET: “Not only is healthcare.gov at risk, it may already have been compromised, a security expert testified before the Senate.

“Hackers are definitely after it,” said David Kennedy, CEO of information security firm TrustedSEC before a House Science, Space, and Technology committee hearing on security concerns surrounding the problematic Healthcare.gov website.

“And if I had to guess, based on what I can see … I would say the website is either hacked already or will be soon.”

Kennedy told FoxNews.com he based this on an analysis revealing a large number of SQL injection attacks against the healthcare.gov website, which are indicative of “a large amount” of hacking attempts.”

“Hearing: Security Flaws in Obamacare Website Endanger Americans
Experts say they would not use HealthCare.gov due to risks”

BY: Elizabeth Harrington
November 19, 2013 6:12 pm

SNIPPET: “A panel of IT experts had one answer for Congress when asked if Americans should use the Obamacare exchanges on Healthcare.gov in light of its security concerns: “No.””

SNIPPET: “David Kennedy, the founder of TrustedSec, an online security firm, said that the risks were easy to ascertain.

“Just by looking at the website we can see that there is just fundamental security principles not being followed, things that are basic in nature that any security tester, like myself or anyone that we hire to test these sites, would actually test for prior to being released,” Kennedy, formerly of the National Security Agency and a one-time cyber-intelligence analyst for the U.S. Marine Corps, said.

The experts said the personal information of millions of Americans is at risk, including Social Security numbers, birthdays, incomes, home mortgages, and addresses. Rep. Mo Brooks (R., Ala.) called it the “mother lode for identity theft.”

“Americans should be scared to death,” said Rep. Chris Stewart (R., Utah).”

Emails shed light on serious problems with ObamaCare website before launch
Fox News ^ | November 22, 2013
Posted on November 22, 2013 at 2:05:06 AM PST by Cincinatus’ Wife

Newly released emails between top Obama administration tech officials are shedding more light on the severity of the concerns that were raised before the disastrous rollout of the ObamaCare website, with one official saying “the results are not good” just days before the Oct. 1 launch.

The emails from Sept. 26-30, which were discovered by the House Energy and Commerce Committee as part of its investigation into the troubled Healthcare.gov, highlight troubling results as Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) officials ran tests on the site.

In a Sept. 26 email to top CMS officials including HealthCare.gov project manager Henry Chao, Akhtar Zaman from the CMS Office of Information Services gave a grim report after three days of performance and stress tests on the website. He cited numerous instances where tests were unsuccessful.

“The results are not good and not consistent at all,” Zaman wrote.

Chao responded to this report by emailing a stern warning to CMS staffers.

“I DO NOT WANT A REPEAT OF WHAT HAPPENED NEAR THE END OF DECEMBER 2005 WHERE MEDICARE.GOV HAD A MELTDOWN (THIS IS TO GET YOUR ATTENTION IF I DIDN’T HAVE IT ALREADY),” he said.

On Sept. 27, acting Director of the CMS Office of Enterprise Management David Nelson delivered Chao more bad news, saying the website’s scripts were failing due to a variety of issues.

“We have not been successful in moving beyond 500 concurrent users filling applications without income verification,” he said.

Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich., said the documents are more evidence that the Obama administration went “out of its way” to cover up the chaos behind the scenes at Healthcare.gov.

Messaging Isn’t the Problem. Obamacare Is.
Real Clear Politics ^ | Dec 8, 2013 | Jack Kelly

“Would you consider an ATM machine to be functional if it created a lifelike experience but no money comes out, no deposits get credited, no transfers actually work?” asked Jonah Goldberg of National Review.

The Obama administration “has erected a Potemkin village online — a facade that temporarily conceals the lack of architecture behind it,” said Washington Post blogger Jennifer Rubin.

Perhaps Mr. Obama imagines he can talk his way out of anything. But his isn’t a “messaging” problem. Obamacare has done too much harm to too many people for reality to be spun or ignored.

New Affordable Care US health plans will exclude top hospitals
The Financial Times ^ | 12/8/2013 | Stephanie Kirchgaessner
Posted on December 8, 2013 at 6:54:37 PM PST by iowamark

Americans who are buying insurance plans over online exchanges, under what is known as Obamacare, will have limited access to some of the nation’s leading hospitals, including two world-renowned cancer centres.

Amid a drive by insurers to limit costs, the majority of insurance plans being sold on the new healthcare exchanges in New York, Texas, and California, for example, will not offer patients’ access to Memorial Sloan Kettering in Manhattan or MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, two top cancer centres, or Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, one of the top research and teaching hospitals in the country.

Experts say the move by insurers to limit consumers’ choices and steer them away from hospitals that are considered too expensive, or even “inefficient”, reflects the new competitive landscape in the insurance industry since the passage of the Affordable Care Act, Barack Obama’s 2010 healthcare law.

Ezekiel Emanuel: If You Want To Pay More For Your Doctor, You Can Do That
RCP / Fox News Sunday ^ | 12/8/2013
Posted on December 8, 2013 at 12:14:25 PM PST by Republican Wildcat

CHRIS WALLACE, HOST: President Obama famously promised, if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor. Doesn’t that turn out to be just as false, just as misleading, as his promise about if you like your plan you can keep your plan? Isn’t it a fact, sir, that a number, most, in fact, of the Obamacare health plans that are being offered on the exchanges exclude a number of doctors and hospitals to lower costs?

EZEKIEL EMANUEL: The president never said you were going to have unlimited choice of any doctor in the country you want to go to.

WALLACE: Wait. No. He asked a question. If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor. Did he not say that, sir?

EMANUEL: He didn’t say you could have unlimited choice.

WALLACE: It’s a simple yes or no question. Didn’t he say if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor?

EMANUEL: Yes. But look, if you want to pay more for an insurance company that covers your doctor, you can do that. This is a matter of choice. We know in all sorts of places you pay more for certain — for a wider range of choices or wider range of benefits. The issue isn’t the selective networks. People keep saying, ‘Oh, the problem is you’re going to have a selective network.’

WALLACE: Well, if you lose your doctor or lose your hospital —

Security Documents Show HHS Downplayed HealthCare.gov Vulnerabilities Prior to Launch

December 17, 2013

Issa Accepts White House Offer to Meet with Sebelius

WASHINGTON – Today, after reviewing HealthCare.gov security documents produced by one of the site’s contractors, MITRE, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., sent a letter to HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to accept a meeting offer made by the White House to discuss concerns about both the decision to move forward with the website launch despite known vulnerabilities and ongoing concerns about site security.

“The full context of MITRE’s assessment, which the Department had in its possession prior to the October 1 launch date, shows that CMS and HHS knew that HealthCare.gov was vulnerable yet your statements have not given the American people a fair and accurate assessment of known risks,” Issa writes.

“Contrary to the assertion made by the White House, neither I nor anyone on my staff has expressed an unwillingness to meet with you for a discussion about both the ongoing security vulnerabilities noted in the MITRE documents as well as the rationale for proceeding on October 1, 2013,” Issa writes in a letter to Sebelius. “Indeed, my staff repeatedly has told your staff that it would welcome a page by page discussion of the MITRE documents and any concerns about the public release of any information once the documents were properly and fully produced to the Committee.”

“Of the 28 separate security vulnerabilities identified in the October 11 report, MITRE reported that 19 remained unaddressed. Among the unaddressed security risks that went live on October 1, MITRE indicated eleven ‘will significantly impact the confidentiality, integrity and/or availability of the system or data….’ if the technical or procedural vulnerability is exploited,” the letter states.

“While I am withholding sensitive technical details, one security finding summary states, ‘Any malicious user having knowledge of this can perform unauthorized functions.’ The summary of another discusses a system weakness that makes a particular type of sensitive information vulnerable.

Part of the finding states this, ‘increases the risk that they will be captured by an attacker.’ A third, which the document indicates HHS was supposed to address in the days immediately before launch, ‘The attacker is able to see and edit PII of the victim …’”

You can read Chairman Issa’s complete letter here.

“ObamaCare’s Latest Whopper”

Posted by Betsy McCaughey on Thursday, January 2, 2014

NEW YORK POST

Snip: “Like so many other parts of ObamaCare, the reality flies in the face of promises. In this case, it was the one where the president assured us that “you’re not going to have anybody getting in between you and your doctor in your decision making.”

Section 1311(h)(1)(B) of the health law gives the secretary of Health and Human Services blanket authority to dictate how doctors treat patients. Not just patients in government programs like Medicare and Medicaid, but patients with private plans they pay for themselves.”

Snip: “In short, the federal government will be calling the shots on what patients get.”
