It seems to me that the ink has faded on the Australian one after 40 odd years and was written with a fountain pen, but the Obama one looks pristine and written with a ball point pen which was considered déclassé in 1964.

That's the one thing I didn't catch.

Funny, though...I still think ballpoints are déclassé and faithfully use my Waterman fountain pen every day (and have for years), thank you very much.

Civil servants of that time would be horrified to sign anything with a ball point pen.
