Thanks for the explanation.

I'm a "Civilization" fanatic, so I never had time to try other games.

I'd like to give a shout out for the civfanatics.com website. A number of very talented gamers have added to the game by coming up with their own scenarios and modpacks that are free downloads.

Every time I download a new modpack, it's like Christmas.

Is it derived from “pawn?”

To pawn, as a verb, of course is to exchange for money. However the pawnbroker usually gives you less money than what he can sell the item for.

There is the chess metaphor as well — “to make into a footsoldier,” I suppose.

Yeah, I know it’s text lingo — 2 lazy 2 type and all, but maybe you could give me some additional insights.
