Sgt. Leon Lashley, the African-American cop on scene when James Crowley arrested Professor Henry Louis Gates, writes a letter saying that he is not an "Uncle Tom" and regrets being known as a "black sergeant." He asks Prof. Gates what he can do to make things better, and let him know if he did anything wrong.
CNN's Don Lemon reads the letter to viewers.

It must be really frustrating for police officers like Sgt. Lashley. Blacks fought hard for the right to be police officers and fought hard so that blacks could be promoted. Then, other blacks sit back and call them Uncle Tom’s.
The real Uncle Tom was defiant to the death.

Hopefully someday people will simply refer to each other as Americans instead of hyphenated Americans. Do Canadians of American descent refer to themselves as American-Canadians? I don’t know but I’ve never heard the term.

It was racist of Obama to invite the white cop to the white house, but ignore the black cop.
It is not about race. The cops were following procedure. I have posted about about how the cops go about investigating possible burglaries and burglar alarms going off. They show up and you better check your ego at the door. You are going to get the full rectal exam before they leave. This has happened to me at least a dozen times in 8 years working the night shift alone in a large building. They take your license, company ID and call your car plate numbers in. Then they call in a designated person to show up on the scene to vouch for you. You feel like the bad guy until you are cleared.

That won’t happen until we are rid of the racial scabpickers like J Jackson, Rev Al, and Gates.

That is a very powerful letter by Sgt. Lashley.
i noted that when CNN reported on and read Sgt. Lashley’s letter, they still continued to address him as “the Black ...”
This incident proves how some members of the black community continue to promote racism. Unfortunately, it came from an educated person with some social standing, which is sad. In this instance, Sgt. Lashley did the right thing. Sgt. Crowley is obviously not a racist, yet Lashley is receiving backlash from the black community for standing up for him. Gates was wrong for stereotyping all white male authority figures as racists. In fact, I would go as far as to say Gates is the REAL racist here. Gates used bad judgement in his choice of behavior. PERIOD. This was nothing more than an attempt to bring attention to himself. His unfortunate actions further perpetuate this ingorance-based racist feud. I would have expected better from someone of his educational level and social stature. Take notice of who Obama keeps in his company! Makes you wonder even more about what is in his college thesis!!!! You know the old saying....
