Yes, I tend to agree that liberals tend to smoke more than conservatives. But the smoking restrictions and tobacco taxes tend to increase under "liberal" administrations, federal, state, or local.

In terms of tobacco company profits, the Left must maintain that message as a backdrop to their trial lawyers' litigation. The more the public hears about the "excessive profits" of the companies, the more jurors' awards in tobacco liability cases against the companies are going to be, and the more the plaintiffs' bar will line their already deep pockets.

The tobacco companies miss the boat by not printing and distributing the tax information to the various markets (they’d have to be customized because the tax rates vary so much from state to state). The gov’t has been making more on cigarette sales in Michigan for years now; since 2002, the excise has risen a lot, the first two bit off $1.25 a pack (a 50 cent and 75 cent increase in succession, may have been the other order) or $12.50 a carton, and the recent one was eased in over some weeks. Also new was that loose tobacco for roll-ups, as well as the little cigars (Cheyenne, Director’s Club, Smoker’s Choice, etc) got nailed. The loose tobacco in particular got hammered.

just saying that on statistical average, the health of gays is significantly worse than that of heterosexual men of a comparable age group.

HERE is a web page about a Canadian study that found that on average homosexual men die 20 years younger than straight men. A sexually active 20 year old homosexual is not expected to reach 65.

Canadian homosexual men today have the same average life expectancy as Canadian men in 1871, long before modern medical practices and medicines significantly raised the average life expectancy of all Canadianmen.

The far left in America is made up largely of liberal progressives. What the liberal side means is that they want you to be able to do whatever you want, and be whoever you want (gay, a black woman with a job, a transsexual atheist hooker) without any impediment by the government or society at large so long as it doesn't hurt other people.

Here's the problem - liberals want you to be "whoever you want" so long as you're a member of a liberal victim group. They're not so much "open minded" as they are "accepting of themselves".

For example:

How would you feel if I said as proof of my great open-mindedness I was accepting of fundamental Christians, radical gun owners, and even though I don't believe in killing abortion doctors I believe everyone has the right to make that choice for themselves.

Under those circumstances would you see me as "open minded" or "nuts"? Well, that's how I see liberals - nuts. The only people they're ever open minded about are themselves and the fringe radical groups that support them.
