A 25-year-old unemployed woman who was given an £8,000 operation to help her lose 16 stone is complaining because, as well as her weight loss, her benefits have been reduced.
Laura Ripley, who has never worked, was given the operation on the NHS to help her slim down from 38 to 22 stone.
But the 25-year-old, who receives £600 a month in benefits, is unhappy because as a result of losing weight she can no longer claim disability allowance amounting to an extra £340 a month.
This, she says, means she cannot afford to eat healthily - causing her to pile the weight back on. 'I can't afford to buy WeightWatchers crisps and cereal bars any more so I eat Tesco's chocolate bars and packets of Space Invaders crisps, sometimes four of each a day', says Laura, who spends seven hours a day watching TV.
'People ask why I don't snack on an apple - they're cheap, but emotionally I don't always feel like an apple.'
The disability allowance money she used to receive was spent on gym workouts, healthy food and having her hair highlighted.

Ye olde Brit measurement.
Generally agreed-upon; fourteen pounds.
When the morbidly obese cry that healthy food is too expensive, what they actually mean is that healthy prepared food is too expensive.
Cookery more involved than peeling back the cellophane would cut into her 7 hours a day of TV time.
I don’t always eat healthy, but I don’t eat a lot, either.
Article says she watches tv for 7 hours, I suspect she spends a lot of those 7 hours eating.
what weight system is stone
Imperial, as in English
one stone = 14 pounds so
38 Stone = 532#
22 Stone = 308#
This woman is a slug (x 10)
Eating healthy doesn't have to be expensive, unless you must have organic vegetables. Prepared foods which are the highest in fat, salt and sugar cost way more per pound than unprepared foods. Restaurant food is ridiculously expensive as well as being high calorie, esp. fast food.
Oatmeal for breakfast, bean soup ((made from scratch)) with a few slices of cheese and some crackers for lunch and a 4 oz. helping of meat/poultry/fish for dinner with a salad and 1 cup of veggies is very healthy and very cheap. Snack on bananas, apples and popcorn. You can have all that for about $50/week.
Emotionally, do you feel like a worthless slug?
Damn. I weigh about 11 stone. She had to lose much more than I weigh.
‘People ask why I don’t snack on an apple - they’re cheap, but emotionally I don’t always feel like an apple.’
The disability allowance money she used to receive was spent on gym workouts, healthy food and having her hair highlighted.
At 22 stone she is near 300 lbs.
Emotionally I don’t feel like supporting your gigantic A$$
I bet if you stopped giving her money she would start feeling like working sooner or later. What a lazy cow
The story mentions that she doesn’t like losing weight because she loses her disability payments. Sounds like she has to be “disabled” only over a certain weight.
She says she has no plans to look for work.
What a life! Just waiting to die.
She’s only 25!!!!! She looks to be at least 40 to me.
The average weight of a rock in England is 14lbs.
Too bad her conscience isn’t as big as her ass.
Fruit isn’t really that good of a snack. Sure it has vitamins and such but it also has lots of sugar.
She needs to cut out the snacks, and eat healthy food she prepares herself. Sure its tough and its hard work. Thats life get used to it or get over it.
Me neither!
I wonder if the little women that orbit her girth are also on the dole?
