Born in the USA: NRO Takes on Birther Nonsense
National Review Online ^

Posted on 07/28/2009 2:43:39 PM PDT by RuyDiaz

If I may appeal to our good friends pinning their hopes on this birther nonsense, please read up on the nature of conspiracy theories. Best regards;

Now an excerpt:

Pres. Barack Obama has a birthday coming up, a week from Tuesday. We hope he takes the day off—or even the whole week, the briefest of respites from his busy schedule of truncating our liberties while exhausting both the public coffers and our patience. The president’s birthday comes to mind because we recently spent some time looking at a photograph of his birth certificate, being held by Joe Miller of Factcheck.org, who took the time to examine it. President Obama was born on August 4, 1961, at 7:24 p.m, in Honolulu County, Hawaii, on the island of Oahu. The serial number on his birth certificate is 010641. Baby Barack’s birth was not heralded, as some of his partisans have suggested, by a star in the east, but it was heralded by the Honolulu Star, as well as the Honolulu Advertiser, each of which published birth announcements for young Mr. Obama.

There is no secondary document cloaked in darkness, only the state records that are used to generate birth certificates when they are requested.

The document itself does not purport to be a "birth certificate", but rather a "Cerfification of Live Birth". It contains some, but not all of the information from the "Certificate of Live Birth", which *is* the birth certificate. The Certification, if a legitimate one, contains the information necessary to determine if one is a citizen at birth, but not a natural born citizen.

The next question is, why would anyone fake a CoLB, if a legitimate one would have shown the same information, and that information supports being a Natural Born Citizen.

THIS is the definitive article on the issue of 0bama's birth certificate, for those who are still ignorant, they should read this. For those who understand what is at stake, this article should be shoved up the ass of any one sneering 'birther-this' and 'birther-that':

“The matter of the original BC is becoming a matter of historical importance. Why shouldn’t it be examined?”

It HAS been examined already. Continuous, obsessive examination, against all evidence, is the problem here.

“I never liked NRO anyway.”

So, if a publication you do like publishes a similar piece, will you continue to buy it, or will you suddenly never have liked it?

When you haven't got any weight of intellect, you always go for the "personal" attack.

He was insulted what you said and you responded by insulting his intellect. Which is more "personal"? One is insulting an action and the other is insulting the person. of course you followed it up by calling a lot of people you don't know 'fools'. It might not be "not adult" but it sure isn't civil.

— lawyer Phil Berg, for instance, is a player in both worlds

True, Berg is a bit of crackpot but he's one of the DemocRATS' crackpots. His service to and in the Democrat Party is extensive. When he filed suit back in August, 2008, (was it the first birther suit?) he said he was doing it because he was a Hillary supporter.

If nothing else, the DemocRATS need to be reminded that one of their own started the birther train.

Here’s my scenario, for what its worth. Obama was born in Hawai’i as an American citizen. When he moved to Indonesia following his mother’s marriage to Lolo Soetoro, he became an Indonesian citizen. It has been highly publicized that Indonesia does not allow dual citizenship.

Obama being a citizen of Indonesia would explain his ability to travel to Pakistan. It would also explain why his college records were never released as he attended as a foreign student.

Now here’s the $64,000 question: did Obama ever apply to become an American citizen once again?

>It HAS been examined already.

Really? Where?
I saw something that might be confused with a birth certificate, as it had similar information on it, but it lacked a lot of information a real birth-certificate would have... like a computer generated abstract.

“It HAS been examined already.”

Yes. By a clerk who will only say it shows Obama was born in Hawaii.

I believe that. However, there is other information I would like to see that is on the original not transposed to the COLB.

If it is not a matter of historical importance, why all the fuss against releasing it?

Then why not PROVE it?

You know - like using evidence and all?

I honestly never liked NRO. And yes, if a publication I normally read started towing Obama’s lies, then I’d stop reading.

This has nothing to do with whether Phil Berg is a nut or not, or whether we like NRO or not. The only thing that has anything to do with anything is the document that has the SIGNATURE of the attending physician and nurse. And I want to see the independent hospital records. Until I see those things, everything else is just smoke from burning BS.

Birth in Hawaii doesnt automatically qualify him - its whether or not his mother was qualified to convey citizenship to him.

Not true. Birth in Hawaii makes his mother's qualifications irrelevant, even for mere citizenship. US Citizen parent's time in US residence only applies to births abroad, and with a foreign father. But again that's for citizenship, naturalized at birth citizenship at that.

But for natural born citizenship, his father's qualifications OTOH, that is nationality at the time of birth may indeed matter.

While a Certificat of Live Birth may be referred to as a "short form" birth certificate, or an abstract birth certificate, in no way is it an "original" document. It's not even a copy, in the sense of a copy made with a "copy machine" or a printout of a image file generated by a scan of an original document. The original document is the Certificate of Live Birth.

MK thanks for that WJ investigative piece on the COLB, very interesting this is turning a lot of Obot types into serial liars. What will hapen when 1000s of active duty US Servicemen refuse deployment and file a class action suit dor proof?

Whatever the case - produce the document and make the naysayers look like a$$es if there is nothing to hide.

By NOT producing the document he is making the naysayers look like a$$es. It's in his own best interest to keep this controversy going. Why should he put the brakes on something that's helping distract everybody from his agenda & undercut the credibility of his opposition with the general public? Why should he help conservatives by putting this to rest?

I'd say the birther issue is working out quite well for Barack Obama & his agenda just the way it is. He's the one who'd be nuts to produce a birth certificate now.

Ever notice that just when his ratings start to dip & his agenda gets stuck in the mud, the MSM brings up the BC controversy out from the shadows again?

There's a very good reason for that.
