How much, “carbon-producing” energy is used to crush the cars, grind the metal, then re-melt and re-cast into new cars or new car parts. Sounds about as efficient as processing corn into ethanol.

Actually I believe reprocessing metal scrap is much cheaper than mining ore. That’s how scrap metal dealers make a profit. Maybe someone on here with expert knowledge can chime in.
