LaHood sounded a bit vicious in explaining the process, describing it as essentially a murdering of the car.
After a deal is made with a car dealership, sodium silicon is poured onto the car, the engine then fogs, and is towed away, he explained.
The car is dead, LaHood said. We kill the car.

They're all over the German Autobahn amidst the Mercedes's and other fast European cars. They go like hell too! We overtook one in my son's Honda and the driver made it a point of honor to blast around us and get far, far ahead: a brave (or foolish) driver.
No wonder our Chinese landlords are nervous.
If it's an engine with a cast-iron block, I doubt that a dose of abrasive in the oiling system could damage it to the point where it couldn't be rebuilt. They're just trying to prevent those engines from *easily* returning to highway use.
The law mentions "destroying" the engine, but this method may not be as permanent as they think. I know some very talented machinists and engine builders. *Poof* - instant black market.
Hey if anyone has a ‘79 Ford pickup they want to trade in, send me a message. Because I would pay you $4500 rather than watch it be destroyed. Coolest pickup ever built
Isn’t it just cheaper and simpler to let the oil companies drill wherever the hell they want? there is more oil on this planet than we could use in the next 100 years.
Don’t worry about scrap metal prices, China’s economy is recovering nicely and they are the driving factor of world metal prices right now.
"Zotting the i".
Trucks from Romania - they are the worst!
Okay, I'll bite. What was so great about the '79 F-series? I drove a '79 F-100 for five years and while it was tough as nails and reliable, but was not exactly "cool".
It was nearly identical to several other preceding year models of the same (with square headlights, maybe?). In any case, you need not worry - the '79 Ford does not qualify. Too old!
The square headlights, the sloped up front. Give it a panel box green or tan paint job and you’ve got a fantastic looking truck
Oh, no. The Zerobama administration has discovered a brand new source of gummit money.
Just print it.
Of course, that dilutes the dollars in your wallet.
But who's counting?
Inflation has been a tried and true method for dissolving federal debt for a long time, but this time it won’t work because the spread between owed and printable is too large. We cannot dissolve 10 trillion by inflating the money supply, and remain a viable nation of free people. But then, that seems to be the point of the democrat agenda they are rushing through while they have power.
I wouldn’t put anything past Øbama the arrogant, narcissistic, elitist, pretender!
I’m still keeping my Lightning pickup and Bronco SUV!
If it doesn’t have V8 engine, I won’t own it!
Except for motorcycles... >:-}
No more used parts. No more engine cores. No more scavenging for needed bits.
You hit on something that really pisses me off!....I enjoy spending an afternoon scrounging for parts on my car. It’s relaxing and gets me outdoors. SO Obama is going to destroy that hobby and he will kill another one when he and his whack nut environmentalists ban fishing! THESE IDIOTS HAVE TO GO!!
That’s the whole point of Obamunism — as a so-called “citizen of the world” he is dismantling and destroying all things uniquely American. A total POS.

Say what you want but I bet many of these “murdered” cars will still end upon the used car lots in Arkansas. Arkansas has no “salvage” titles and even then, “new” titles can be picked up from the Missouri rebuilders.
What matters is NOT "does it make sense", but "does it make a liberal feel ecologically superior"...
Don’t you get 1099’d on the 4500 as well
I think I heard that this morning...
