Not on birth certificates, there have been lots of early '60s BCs posted here, they all use Caucasian. What is in disput is that they also would not have used "African" but rather Negroid or Negro. The third choice would have been "Mongoloid"

Good point. But someone closely connnected to the father, who knew his heritage, might have used the term "African" at the time if they were filling out a Certificate of Live Birth vs. a hospital or other legitimate attendant to a live birth.

Usually the hospital administrative staff would standardize the terms. They are the ones who fill out the Certificate, for the parent, doctor and hospital registrar (one of them) to sign. I think that is required today, but may have only been a "standard" in '61.
