Mormons: The Most Conservative Religious Group In America
That's according to a new report from Pew, released today and based on data from the group's 2007 U.S. Religious Landscape Survey.
More Mormons (60 percent) identify themselves as conservatives than any other religious group; they also lead every other group in GOP party identification (at 65 percent)--much higher than the general population in both categories

Thank you for clearing this up, Jim. I appreciate the time you took, and I apologize for misunderstanding what you said.
You have every right in the world to dislike liberals, no matter what their religious beliefs.
So, you're willing to stereotype all Muslims but you defend every Mormon down to Romney? (and Huntsman & Reid, too?) Many Muslims are conservative and anti-terrorist, but it's clear you want to deflect the fact that Lds daily go on the offensive against Christians.
Mormon missionaries head out to 60-80% of Christian homes in many regions of the country/world -- but not a word from you about why Lds missionaries won't leave Christian households alone and only focus on other religions. (I thought you're the "common enemy" language guy? Any lobbying on your part to the Lds Missionary department to call off the tie & backsack bicyclists from those you don't regard as your "enemy?" If not, why not?)
...without beating up on each other because of religious differences
Yeah, MF, please post your a copy of your e-mail sent to the Lds missionary department re: your objection to 60,000 Lds missionaries preaching door-to-door worldwide about a so-called "universal apostasy." Isn't this slanderous behavior on the part of Lds?
And what about your tithing $ that goes to put Joseph Smith - History into umpteen different languages? Doesn't that label all Christians as corrupt professors? Doesn't that label all Christian creeds as "an abomination" to the Mormon god?
This daily Mormon "beating" up on Christians in word & print as so-called "apostates" sounds closer to how Muslims regard Christians -- for they, too regard us as "infidels."
Please explain why the "polarizing people is an Obama tactic" people don't seemingly find the time to critique the Mormon church for putting it into their "Scripture" that...
...every single Christian creed is an "abomination" to the Mormong god;
...every single Christian professor of faith is "corrupt";
...and all of the Christian sects are "apostate."
But maybe I've pegged you wrong. Perhaps you can show us evidence that you have so critiqued the Mormon church for that? (Care to do so? Or does the Mormon church 100% join the Muslim idea that Christians are all "infidels?")
Are we all "apostates" or not in your eyes?
And did the Democrats/Liberals get their polarizing doctrines from Joseph Smith, who labeled 100% of Christian sects "apostate," 100% of Christian professors as "corrupt," and 100% of Christian creeds as abominable?
Source: "Pearl of Great Price, Joseph Smith - History, verses 18-20" -- regarded not as mere "opinions" of Mormon leaders but regarded as canonized "Scripture"
Perhaps you should have someone read my post again and you will see that I agreed with Jim in my first sentence.
>>”And what a shameful representation of Mormons you are portraying...”<<
I do not ‘represent Mormons’.
>>”You ought to apologize, but I won’t hold my breath.”<<
My question was to Jim Robinson, not you. I will wait for him to explain in his usual calm and concise adult manner, as opposed to the immature attacks I have received so far from the usual suspects.
Why does it p**s you guys off so much when you find out that most Mormons are Conservative? I don’t get it.
I know how you feel. I was so happy to discover Free Republic. I flew my family back to Washington DC for the Free Republic impeachment rally during the Clinton administration, and donated a couple of times. But, during the last couple of years, the entrenched bigotry here has made me think it is dominated by people who, if you are a thoughtful, intelligent person, you wouldn’t want to make common cause with or be publicly associated with. And, because I’m a Mormon, I guess those people don’t care if I make common cause with. But, I can’t help but think that people other than Mormons are turned off by it.
If you are really interest in promoting conservatism, you ought to be focusing on what we all have in common. If you are interested in something else, then the anti-Mormon, anti-Catholic bigotry makes sense.
What was your question?
Your faith claims free will it is one of the few that do so.
Either the Lord gave man free will or he did not!
In a few cases like rape, incest and life is the exception.
It says more about the person who would select abortion than it does about the Church.
A religion should be consistent with the Lords doctrine.
The Church is very much against abortion and some women take advantage but the Lord knows all our hearts and minds and will have to answer for her decision if they were legit or not.
Those who are true to the faith will choose life or adoption.
Rape or incest they should choose adoption if they cannot due to trama keep the baby, the life or death is up to the mother.
If the women lies about her condition she has to answer to the Lord.
side note
The Romney family never aborted even in a life or death situation.
That’s why the Mormon position makes clear they are talking about the “rare” instances. Not when there is a healthy mother, a healthy baby, and no rape, but the mother says, “Gee, I’ll be really really upset if I have to go through with this.”
I think that’s what the 1971 Baptist position was aiming at, too.
I believe that was my original point, but some folks just don’t want to let go of something unless they can force you into an argument.
That’s not nice. Conservatism is what makes this country great. Liberalism is killing it. Islam will overrun us and then no one will be able to be anything but Muslim.
So much for standing together.
You make such wonderful sense!
Yep. There’s difference between honest political disagreement, and singleminded, irrational hatred, to the point where you call an otherwise decent, intelligent, accomplished person filthy names just because you disagree with his political positions.
It is compromising with sin.
>>Could very well be, but just like any other group of people there are some Mormons who are socialists, abortionists, gun grabbers, etc.<<
It just seemed odd to me that you would chime in on such a hot topic. As I read down a few posts I saw that your words were directed at Romney (which I totally agree with you on) and not the Mormon religion as a group. Maybe in the future you could identify the target immediately. My only regret is that I responded before I read who your target was. For that, I am sorry. I will attempt to read entire threads before posting in the future.
You can tell MHGinTN to stop holding his breath now. We wouldn’t want anything bad to happen to an otherwise good FReeper.
panax
And the continual whining from mormons because Christians on FR post factual evidence against their heresy is, in fact, rank hypocrisy.
They certainly celebrate sending their missionaries out to preach against other beliefs with pride and parties, and articles in various mormon publications and local news stories, claiming this is the "work of GOD" and daily post closed threads on FR proselytizing their religion.
BUT, they complain, rant and rave, cry "bigotry" and claim "persecution" because their heresy is rebutted.
The mormons believe that spreading THEIR "sweet-smelling manure" world-wide is done with the intention of causing sweet-smelling flowers pleasing to Christ to flourish...but complaints that that same ordure stinks and condemns Christian beliefs and leads believers away from God are met with noses held high in the air and wails of "dinosaur dung."
One of their "Prophets", Ezra Taft Benson stated this:
"The Book of Mormon is to be used for a standard unto my people, which are of the house of Israel, the Lord says, and His words shall hiss forth unto the ends of the earth. (2 Ne. 29:2.) We, the members of the Church, and particularly the missionaries, have to be the hissers, or the tellers and testifiers, of the Book of Mormon unto the ends of the earth."
The Book of Mormon Is the Word of God
Well, there was a "hisser" long ago, in the Garden of Eden, and this "hisser" led Adam and Eve into the Fall.
Ok. I commented on this thread because I saw it as a leading attempt to rehabilitate Mitt Romney as an acceptable “conservative” for the presidency. He’s not. I’d rather go down the drain than support someone with his record for president. Thanks
It is not “compromising with sin” to be unwilling to force an innocent rape victim to bear the child of her rapist. Absolutism is neat and intellectually easy. But it leads to ugly, shameful things. I’m sure that the Saudis who forced those young girls back into a burning building were satisfied that to allow them out into public without their “cover” would be “compromising with sin.”
