BUT states require auto insurance because there are plenty of irresponsible people who won’t purchase it for whatever reason, which drives up the cost.

Actually, what you have to prove to the state is financial responsibility for liability. Who would carry $100K on them to cover an accident?

I think a lot of that has to do with car loans and the lenders who can and do require insurance and then the govt. steps in and tags on to that with the banks. I hate to see so many rules and regs by govt. regarding our freedoms we lose more freedom almost daily.............
