Video at the BBC Website:
Former Iranian President Ali Akbar Rafsanjani has called for the release of people jailed after protesting at the result of the recent election.
In his first Friday sermon since the vote, he also said large numbers of Iranians still doubted its result.
Outside, police fired tear gas at thousands of opposition supporters who were chanting slogans in support of defeated candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi.
Chanting also broke out among some of the tens of thousands of people inside.
Thousands of opposition supporters rallied in streets near the university - the first public opposition demonstration for more than a week.
Many were wearing green bands on their heads or wrists to indicate support for Mr Mousavi, and some could be heard chanting "death to the dictator" and "Allahu Akbar" [God is great].

Iran Tehran rafsanjani 17 July Protests Part 1
CNN estimated the crowds in Tehran to be in the “tens of thousands” but then commented that with the crowds seen in the videos they received it could well have been “hundreds of thousands”
More when AntiMullah completes an article on this.
It's not very Christian, but I am tempted to echo: "Marg bar diktator." And I reminded of this music video.
Now is that an aggregate number over the past month? Or is this a new set of demonstrations? 3 million?
One single day on July 17th
I’m so sorry. I know of a few people who have been hit with batons, but fortunately weren’t arrested.
Oh my...it’s all Bush’s fault!
My condolences to you and the family of your friend. And thank you for this version of the song, which was posted somewhere on AntiMullah preciously without the subtitles. Relegated thus to the Multilingual Section and not usable on the Front Page. Yours is.
Alan has put it up on the Main Page as the lead video on the Iran article he is preparing as he says it is a window into the soul and background of what is going on today in Mullah land.
Please share whatever news you get from inside Iran as AntiMullah cannot be everywhere all the time and lots of stuff goes on that is missed but available on a personal level.
And anything bilingual.
BTW a Farsi article was posted that indicates Ahmadi-Nejad the Turd will be sacrificed by the Khamenei clan and be blamed for the unrest then killed/murdered or killed/executed as the scapegoat.
Everything in Islam ends in death - one way or another! So your inner thought is completely appropriate
My prayer is that this young one's death is (as it is at least for those of us saved by His mercy) the entry to eternal life.
And no, I do not know about this one's faith -- whether Islam, Christian or some other. But what I hear says this was not extremist Islamism, this was somebody who followed precepts that completely accord with Christianity.
We will pray for this one's soul, and for deliverance for Iran.
Meanwhile they keep pumping the UF6 gas through the centrifuges to make enough U235 to create a few low yield atomic bombs.
Thanks for the ping!
