Oboma works on "South Pacific" time.

My Philippino wife does the same thing.

Anywhere from a couple of minutes to an hour late is "on time".

Fairly simple when you remember that he was raised for the formative years of his life in Indonesia.

I realized that some persons in my life were doing that to me on a chronic basis, and reprimands from me were going nowhere.

I was scheduled to trailer 2 horses to an event and to sponsor a junior rider who is chronically late.

I finally had enough—and I drove out without his horse and without him. He was furious, as was his mother. They tried to blame it on ‘traffic’. As life-long residents of Los Angeles, I told them they had to allow for ‘traffic’. I found out later that they arrived over 40 minutes after I left, and that there were no traffic issues on their route. They were just plain late.

After some solid words, they got the message. I particularly asked the Mom- When you fly somewhere, do you arrive 40 minutes after the scheduled departure time of the plane? She got the message, and the kid got a new look at other’s point of view.
