Again - it isn’t the production of the document I’m questioning. It is the idea that this is all that would be required to end this issue.

Why do you care if it's the end of the issue or not? So what if it's not?

Well, let’s make this personal. What would satisfy YOU that Senator Obama was eligible for the office of president and thus end the issue..

This is the South Carolina ballot requirements as stated on their web site. I suspect that other states have similar requirements.

“The written certification required by this section must contain a statement that each certified candidate meets, or will meet by the time of the general election, or as otherwise required by law, the qualifications in the United States Constitution, statutory law, and party rules to participate in the presidential preference primary for which he has filed. Political parties must not certify any candidate who does not or will not by the time of the general election meet the qualifications in the United States Constitution, statutory law, and party rules for the presidential preference primary for which the candidate desires to file, and such candidate’s name must not be placed on a primary ballot.”

The question I have is, who was responsible for verifying that these requirements were met (or did they use the “honor” system) and what documentation was supplied to show that these requirements were met? Show us the statement certifying the candidates qualification (and who made it), tell us what proof was supplied that the candidate met the qualifications (or was it the honor system again), show us (or an appointed authority such as the court) what collaborating evidence was filed (if any). Then, if the involved authorities suspect the quality of documentation/evidence it can be pursued at that time.

This is complicated only because people want to make it complicated, possibly to cloud the issue and ensure it is NOT resolved.
