Let me guess, unemployment is out of money, but welfare is not.
Well that is one way to improve the unemployment figures for Barry
Save your money, the odds are he will be in that boat sooner than later. Life has a way of teaching the stubborn.
hmmmmmm, ok...
Get a job...
I live in Texas, I was laid off in late February didn’t go on unemployment till late March...
Been looking for work since February...Nobody is hiring in my job field...It looks to be loosening up in the next month or so...
So as long as no one minds...I’ll hang on to what I paid into to tide us over till late October if I haven’t landed a job by then...I hope I don’t have to do so...
I hope everyone is ok with that...
10% unemployment? We already blew past that. We are rapidly heading to 16 to 20% unemployment and possibly before the end of the year.

Someone needs to do a special on TV and explain the fallacy of the current system. As far as I can learn there is no adjustment for part timers, if ten people are working and two lose their jobs that is twenty percent unemployment but if all ten have their hours cut back twenty percent then there is still zero unemployment. Also, if someone who has been making fifty thousand loses his job but gets a part time job at minimum wage for twenty hours a week and earns less than ten thousand they apparently are counted as employed as far as I know. Certainly if someone earning fifty thousand at a forty hour a week job is laid off and they find a job paying twenty five thousand for forty hours a week they are counted as fully employed but by their own standard they are fifty percent unemployed.
And the worst part in my book is that if the government hired every unemployed person and gave them a salary, car and full benefits then we would officialy have zero unemployment.
A recent report said that we now have the same number of people working as nine years ago when Clinton was still president. We all know that there are many more government employees now than nine years ago so in reality there are millions more government leaches and millions fewer taxpayers for them to suck blood from so we actually have nowhere near the same number of working people as nine years ago.
Option three is to join some friends in the woods, and toughen up for when the Civil War starts and I can apply extreme sanctions to the socialists (and other arrogant fools), who brought us this whole catastrophe. I think I'll stay where I am for the time being. Let me know what you are going to do when Obama's policies put you on the street.
Thanks for the reply. I hope that the 'pittance' is deductible (and that you never need use the funds).
... Strike another 'accomplishment' from Jimmy Carter's list.
FIFTY NINE WEEKS! Go flip burgers, you lazy so-and-so's!
No bloody wonder there are so many leeches on society, we keep feeding the monsters!
No doubt there are several million fast food jobs, that the illegal aliens haven't already gotten.
That should pay what unemployment pays, of course they'll still lose *everything*...
Of course, I am sure most of these millions now unemployed are all about 19 years old, living at home with mom and dad, have no mortgage, insurance bills, utilities bills, car payments, medical expensive, etc etc.
Burger King should be able to handle this economy.
Obama would probably like to hire you as a spokesperson.
Government jobs pay well, and offer lottery style retirement benefits, and top shelf med benefits.
obama policies will not put me on the street. i own a home that i could afford, i have no debt other than a mortgage with a low interest rate. i and my family live within our means. we grow our own veggies, live cheerfully without having every new gadget that comes on the market, and carefully spend what we have to on what we need. we dont do expensive vacations, expensive cars, state of the art expensive electronics or a mcmansion. in short, we live frugally but happily. all of this made it possible for us to maintain when my husband was laid off. because he is a truck driver, he was able to get another job rather quickly. good for us. you did not have that ability, that is too bad. i am sorry that you are having a rough time of it in the recession but i am neither stupid nor clueless and you are trying to make me the enemy. stop behaving like an ass and do not write to me anymore.
good luck with your job search. sorry you’re having a rough time. i did not mean to sound flip about the “get a job” thing. you are not the first to call me on it. the problem i have is that i keep forgetting this recession thingy is causing trouble for people who are NOT liberals or obama fans or illegal immigrants. i hope you will find something soon.
I don’t know if it is deductible - I just take the standard deduction when I do income tax.
Well, that sounds like she could work but won't.
Do you know how belittling that is to a woman that has helped support and raise five children? Do you have any clue what you are talking about? You know what, I am not going to start to comment on the rest of your post(s), because I will probably go into a rant worse than dragnet2!
Yes, I do know what I am talking about, the principle that if you don't work you don't eat.
Now, a year on unemployment is long enough, it is now welfare.
Stop pretending it isn't.
Really, if you weren't receving anything, I bet you would be working doing something.
Your characterization of unemployment as "welfare" is also misguided. "Welfare" is an entitlement designed to give citizens a minimum standard of living. Unemployment is paid by the employer, which means it is a government mandated employment benefit that is factored into total compensation. It is something you EARNED while working.
Hey, try reading what was actually said.
I said anything over a year should be considered welfare.
No, you didn't 'earn' a years worth of unemployment, no one does.
Finally, a year "vacation"? You have a lot of damn nerve. While some abuse the system, most of the unemployed now spend every day looking for a job. They can't provide for their families or even make payments on a mortgage that was perfectly reasonable before their earning capacity got slashed in half. So they wake up every day to confront that reality, try in vain to change it and see no hope for the future because of what the party in power is doing to our country. You see that as a vacation??? You are twisted
Everyday looking for a job?
You mean a job they want, not a job they need.
So, save the hot air.
Cut the unemployment benefits and you will see how quickly people find a job.
A nice check? Good Lord, you are stooopid. Many of these people wages have been stagnant for years, had their hours cut, schedules reduced, *before* losing their freaking jobs, and now are collecting a *FRACTION* of what they once *earned* while *working*.... causing them to go belly up financially, losing *everything*.
And they are getting money for doing NOTHING.
So, that is a 'nice check'
Save the soap box ranting.
The fact is that if you want to work, you will find a job doing something.
You think this is all a made up phony ruse, and it's not really happening, and these extensions for benefits are all because these people are lazy and having a grand ol time collecting a fraction of what the use to make working, while they lose everything?
If they were concerned about losing everything, they would be working at keeping it.
Maybe they put themselves into to much debt in the first place.
Whoooa You, sit on the sidelines, suggesting these people are living it up, kicking back and collecting nice checks every week? You have not a clue here, and clearly don't live in the *real* world.
Oh, I live in the real world, where if a person hasn't found a job after a year, they aren't looking.
You think all these people that are losing everything are all single 19 year olds that live at home with mom and daddy? Are you this stupid?
No, the one who is stupid is you who thinks that a person can sit at home collecting an unemployement check for a year and then whine about there not being any work out there.
What world do you live in?
The real one-get a job.
Based on your own words, you're FOS
Really? I have been very clear about someone being on unemployment for over a year really being on welfare.
So, I wasn't 'suggesting' anything.
And save the foul language, for someone who is impressed.
You sound like just internet 'hero', real tough behind a key board.
You've suggested these people that are losing their jobs by the *millions* are lazy and just don't want jobs, you have even stated if people are off work too long, they are somehow the same as those that have never worked a day in their lives, and have been collecting welfare for many years, sometimes generations.
What I said is that if you are not working for over an year, you are now collecting welfare, not unemployment.
So, now you are making judgements about people on welfare?
How do you know why they aren't working?
If you are on welfare, call it that, don't pretend it is unemployment, when you are just on the dole.
And now you say people that have been off work for long periods are enjoying VACATIONS? wow...
Hey, if you aren't working and getting paid for it, that is a vacation.
Are you really this stupid? Or do you just play the stupid role?
No, I am telling you facts that you want to avoid dealing with.
Many of the millions that have lost their jobs, are now losing **everything**, even their GD homes, losing their good credit, losing their investments, medical benefits, etc....
Yes, they need get jobs.
And you sit there on your stinking computer, suggesting these people are just lazy and don't want to work, suggesting they're enjoying vacations, and have been off work too long?
Yes, I do so from my JOB.
How GD stupid are you?
Well, I am probably far better educated then you are, and certainly a lot smarter.
You too freaking stupid to realize they were working and supporting their families before all this sh*t happened?
Your foul language displays your own education level and character level as well.
Then you come along telling these people their too lazy to work?
That is exactly what I am telling them if they haven't worked for over an year!
To be honest, I'd like to stick you inside a room with a few hundred people that have lost it all, jobs, careers, homes, investments, medical etc. I'd pay to watch that.
With what, your unemployment check?
Unemployment Insurance. Government unemployment insurance and welfare cause unemployment by subsidizing idleness. When a certain behavior is subsidizedin this case not workingwe get more of it.
Ludwig von Mises-Assistance granted to the unemployed does not dispose of unemployment. It makes it easier for the unemployed to remain idle. Human Action p. 770; p. 776
Unemployment Insurance Ludwig von Mises- For the unemployed to be granted support by the government or by the unions only serves to enlarge the evil. If what is involved is a case of unemployment springing from dynamic changes in the economy, then the unemployment benefits only result in postponing the adjustment of the workers to the new conditions.
No problem...
