UNIFIL: Lebanese arms cache a 'serious violation' of ceasefire

A day after Israel cried foul over an explosion that uncovered a hidden Hizbullah arms cache in southern Lebanon, the UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon said Wednesday that ammunition which had exploded in a southern Lebanon village was a "serious violation" of the UN-brokered ceasefire that ended the Second Lebanon War in 2006.

The blast occurred inside the village of Hirbet Selm on Tuesday, some 20 kilometers north of the Israel-Lebanon border, south of the Litani River and within the area which falls under the mandate of the UNIFIL multi-national force.

The explosion caused no casualties but highlighted the long-held suspicion that the Iranian-backed terrorist group has maintained a military presence in the region near Israel's border despite the deployment of Lebanese troops and UN peace-keepers there under a resolution that bans such unauthorized guerrilla activity.

Based on the information currently available, UNIFIL considers the incident a "serious violation" of the UN resolution that ended the conflict, which specifies that there should be no presence of unauthorized assets or weapons in the area of operations.

On Tuesday, Israeli defense officials accused Lebanon of violating United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.

"This is a major violation of resolution 1701," one Israeli official said. "The weaponry was stored inside a village and is proof of our longstanding claim that Hizbullah uses civilian infrastructure to hide its weaponry."

Contrary to Lebanese media reports which claimed that the cache was hidden in the village before the Second Lebanon War in 2006, Israeli defense officials said that the weaponry was recently placed inside the storehouse.

According to the officials, the cache was hidden in a storehouse inside the village and contained dozens of 122mm Katyusha rockets as well as high-powered machine guns. Some of the rockets reportedly flew into the sky.

This is a flying pig moment: a UN body condemns somebody else than Israel!

Just wait, it will be Israel’s fault before it’s over.

"ammunition which had exploded in a southern Lebanon village was a "serious violation" of the UN-brokered ceasefire"

Just goes to show how effective any UN presence is at monitoring and controlling anything.
All they do is make it a safer for criminals to conduct illegal activities.

Thanks to some Muhammadan smoking dope in a ammunition dump, we now know terrorists are fully rearmed and ready to launch another attack on Israel, just as soon as the UN Hezbollah and Obama create a point of weakness for them to attack.

Arms. In the hands of Arabs. To kill Jews. How could that be a violation. UNIFIL recognizes the Arab impulse to genocide. If they don't, their French commanders can look to Paris. France, not Hilton.

What will they do about it, though? Anything that Hizbullah will actually feel?
