> Lake Taupo is the most dangerous supervolcano nobody has ever heard of.
It certainly is!
I have a neighbor in Waiatarua — he’s an interesting if eccentric fellow — who has examined rock carvings near Lake Taupo, determined that they are of Phoenician origin (!) and dated them to a couple centuries before-and-leading-up-to the Taupo explosion. And the settlement disappears entirely thereafter.
He has taken castings of the carvings and they make a great deal of sense!
He even has one carving that looks to be a fairly good (if somewhat inaccurate) map of the globe, including all continents. And another one that is a reasonably accurate map of New Zealand. And another one that looks like a very good drawing of a Phoenician boat, at full sail.
He’s written a book about it and, naturally, everyone thinks he’s cracked. But I’m not sure I do...
Who is the author and what is the book title...I like “cracked people”, like the ones who spend 120 years building a boat with no signs of rain....
