McCain’s status, if he was indeed born in Colon and not Coco Solo as has been widely speculated (and his birth record file says Colon), certainly would test the exact limits of natural born. Could a child born in England of two US citizens in 1790 grow up and live in england, return to the US as an adult for the requisite number of years, and become president? My guess is that the founders would say NO.
Mccain was only in panama a very very short time, but there is no distinguishing of this anywhere I have seen.
A law was passed which would retroactively make mccain natural born if born in the canal zone (and maybe panama iirc) but I am not sure how an ex-post-facto law can apply here.

Seems pretty significant to me. Rather than show his BC he had the military cancel the orders, mooting the case.
I have wondered the same thing. Thinking it through, maybe there is concern that there are certified originals out there in the hands of parties they cannot touch directly (foreign governments, the CIA, etc.)
It’s a heretofore unaddressed situation of our constitution and perhaps the greatest issue the US has faced since the Civil war.
If he can’t legally issue the orders he can’t cancel them either.
