CAPE COAST, Ghana President Obama traveled in his fathers often-troubled home continent on Saturday, where he symbolized a new political era but brought a message of tough love: American aid must be matched by Africas responsibility for its own problems.
We must start from the simple premise that Africas future is up to Africans, Mr. Obama said in an address televised across the continent. For all its previous sins, he said, the West is not responsible for the destruction of the Zimbabwean economy over the last decade, or wars in which children are enlisted as combatants.
These things can only be done if you take responsibility for your future, he told Parliament in Accra, Ghanas capital.
No country is going to create wealth if its leaders exploit the economy to enrich themselves, or police can be bought off by drug traffickers, he said. No business wants to invest in a place where the government skims 20 percent off the top, or the head of the port authority is corrupt. No person wants to live in a society where the rule of law gives way to the rule of brutality and bribery. That is not democracy, that is tyranny, and now is the time for it to end.

Every once in an exceedingly rare while, Obama actually says something that right.
Far from being a blind Obama hater, I'll commend him on this and resist the urge to draw parallels between what Africa is today and what he's attempting to do to the U.S.

Must be part of his UN Millenium(sp?) Project inacted as usual, by circumventing congress.

Agree. “The Divine One,” his Apostles and Disciples could lead millions of like minded volunteers to the continent and they would give rise to a rebirth of philosophy, mathematics, physics and computer science. They could raise Africa to its former glory like unto the days when the Africans taught Plato and Aristotle all that they knew.

I think the ojerk would make a fine president for Africa. He actually knows how to relate to the Africans. He has no understanding of the American “spirit”.

I wonder if he believes or even understands what he is saying; or if he just delivers the prepared speech put in front of him.
