Pssst... Malia is not leader of the free world. And there is no established protocol for what the 11-year-old daughter of the President should wear while eating gelato in Italy on a summer day. I think she looked cute. When she was on official outings (such as at the Vatican) she dressed up, as is appropriate. For sightseeing, she looked like a normal, cute little girl. I totally agree with you, although I do believe her parents should have been a bit more diligent (diplomatic?) in how they allowed the child to be seen in public.
However, my resident fashionista, who also happens to be 11 years old and a cute little girl does not agree with either of us. Her comment was "Mommy, that shirt looks awful, she doesn't have any underwear under it. Shouldn't she have a bra or undershirt on?"
One 11 yo commenting upon another 11 yo -- nothing racist or political about it.
Your daughter is smart. My daughter said it would have been nice to see her wear a shirt that was without a slogan or had USA on it if she needed to express herself. Mine is just 9 yrs old.
