And this is exactly the kind of thing that makes us all look bad. There's nothing "from the hood" about a t-shirt like that. It's actually the kind of shirt worn more often by suburban kids and upper middle class kids. So what exactly about how she looked made you think she looked like she was "someone from the hood"?
She’s black, so she’s automatically from the hood in some people’s eyes. That’s the cause for much of the “hood” and “ghetto” pseudo-language thrown around on many threads. Too many people here are being disingenuous in trying to make the argument to be one about the symbolism of her attire, and how it reflects on the U.S. The problem wasn’t people deriding the “peace” symbol on her shirt, it was how they went about it.
Just because the left is despicable in their references to conservative and republicans’ children, doesn’t mean it’s right to do it back. It’s even possible to complain about the girl’s attire without resorting to the language of the left.
Is the leftist media one-sided and looking to hurt FreeRepublic? Yes. Do they have a double-standard and ignore the behavior of the left? Yes again. But that doesn’t mean we have to give them the ammo for which they’re looking.
