Breaking News: Manufacturing & Technology eJournal Poll Shows Clean Energy Act Could Force Nearly 20 Percent of Manufacturers to Close

The cap-and-trade based system, pushed by the Obama administration and passed by the U.S. House, could cause energy costs to skyrocket and fuel more unemployment

Critics of the Waxman-Markey climate change legislation that narrowly passed the U.S. House of Representatives say energy costs will skyrocket if the bill - as it stands now - becomes law. Manufacturing & Technology eJournal asked readers what actions they were most likely take at their company to offset the inevitable increases in energy costs.

AND THE RESPONSES WEREN'T VERY ENCOURAGING

*More than 17 percent of those who answered said they would have to shut down their business because there is no way they could handle the kinds of increases being predicted.

The unscientific poll taken of Manufacturing & Technology eJournal readers from June 28th through July 1st drew 943 responses.

OTHER CHOICES INCLUDED:

*Would raise the price of my product or service to customers (22 percent);

*A combination of price increases, personnel cuts and reductions in pay and benefits (20 percent);

*Switch to a 4-day workweek (15 percent);

*Layoff workers (14.5 percent).

*Only nine percent said they would do their best to absorb the energy costs increases without making any changes.

What?! No way, according to some Congressman, Cap and Trade “will also help create more than 1.7 million jobs...”

“In house poll: Cap N Trade laws could force 20% of manufactures to close”

No doubt Obama will have a talk with that group, and they will “see the light” as why Cap and Trade can only help the country.

Maybe, but it’ll push more stolen wealth from the U.S. citizen to thieving parasites such as Al Gore and Goldman Sachs and their political beneficiaries.... and that’s the important thing.

Looking on the bright side, at least they'll be easy to identify when the time comes.....

Not to worry. The Government has lots of surplus trailers and cheese.

Seriously, I think their plan is to turn the country into either park-like campuses or trailer parks. Anything that make America strong, independent, or moral will be demonized or sold to the Chinese.

Or given away outright. Wait until Obamalamadingdong gets done in Russia. He's going to give away whatever is left of our national security. The symbolism of him going to Russia precisely at the time when our nation celebrates it's 233rd birthday isn't an accident. Wait and see.....

The LIbs have to go! From Porkulus to quadrupling the national debt to anti-Constitutional bailouts of private industry to nationalized healthcare...these socialist gasbags have destroyed a once great nation in just a matter of months.

The electorate has now become the rubber stamp that keeps them in rent checks, foodstamps, healthcare paid by others...from the cradle to the grave.

This is not sustainable, and even if it were, it is immoral. The LibTard agenda destroys personal initiative and responsibility. It marginalizes anything that supports the individual. It is artificial and unnatural for anything to survive that doesn’t fend for itself to some degree.

And still the 0bamunists steady the march to marxism, headed up by the Pretender-in-Chief. Lemmings unto the sea!

It’s time to take back the country.

Since cap-and-trade is primarily a "sin" tax, Congress will act in their usual way if people start acting "virtuously". If that many factories shut down and others reduce their use of energy, tax revenues will drop and Congress will just have to raise the tax rate.

Remember what happens every time they or the states raise cigarette taxes. The government spends the money they expect, and then cry like frustrated two year olds when some people reduce or quit smoking and the taxes collected aren't what they expected.

The results of this are predictable: an acceleration of moving manufacturing out of the U.S.

While you’re at it, you might as well move the whole damn company out of the US, because of its confiscatory tax policies.

In ten years you and your board of directors will be slapping each other on the back in congratulations. Because now, it turns out, you’re ALSO nearer to your customer base. You see, unless we reverse course, in ten years, the American consumer will barely be able to afford his or her own toothbrush.

This is the essence of the so-called "sin tax". Whenever the gubmint taxes some behavior they get less of it, therefore less tax revenue from it. Our gubmint has become a desperate junkie in need of a fix. The gubmint will never, ever do with less. Sooner or later there won't be enough smokers to satisfy their voracious need for cash and the taxes that were once paid by smokers will ultimately be shifted onto the backs of the rest of us......happens every time it's tried......

I see a business opportunity in imported second-hand toothbrushes. The rich will be able to afford British (barely used) toothbrushes. The poor will have to make do with the neighborhood toothbrush from some town in China.
