WASHINGTON (AllPolitics, May 15) -- Sen. Robert Dole (R-Kan.) electrified Washington today, resigning from the Senate to campaign full time for the White House (256K WAV sound).
"I announce that I will forego the privileges not only of the office of the majority leader but of the United States Senate itself, from which I resign effective on or before June 11th," a choked-up Dole told a Capitol Hill news conference, flanked by Republican lawmakers and a few Democrats. "And I will then stand before you without office or authority, a private citizen, a Kansan, an American, just a man."
...
Republicans, who learned of Dole's intentions early today, were quick to laud the decision. "This is exactly the right thing to do," House Speaker Newt Gingrich told reporters after the announcement. Praising the boldness of the strategy, Gingrich said it was the most effective speech he had heard Dole give. Republican National Committee Chairman Haley Barbour said Dole's decision was "absolutely" right.

Move out of the way (moveon.org?) for who? Someone like McCains lard assed moronic arrogant spawn?
Yep. All of the evil that 0bama is doing, McCain would just be taking longer about it if he were pres.
Yeah, like the time Newt sat on a loveseat with Pelosi to give credence to the 'need' for fighting global warming. Or stood with Hillary to give credence for the 'need' to have computerized medical records (with billions of federal dollars to facilitate such).
We need far less Beltway Newt and more of the likes of citizen leaders like Palin, you RINO twit.
Newt was the only person offering free-market, cost-neutral alternatives to the Democrats’ Cap’n Tax proposals. He was there to counter Pelosi’s plan, not sign on to it.
If there had been some Republicans in Congress offering alternatives like Newt did, then perhaps Congress wouldn’t have just passed the Democrats’ unadulterated plan. Without antithesis, thesis is not subject to synthesis, and the Democrats’ plans go ahead, unaltered by Republicans.
And computerized medical records is just a good idea.
Are you anti-computer too? How do you get on FR without one?
Speak’n Spel and an old telegraph machine?
Your hatred of all things conservative is begining to eat your mind. It's like rabies. Get help. Perhaps you did not notice she "just moved out of the way".
There is huge draw of crowds where ever she goes. I think there is something important you are missing. That is : The people do not want her to go away. She resonates with the conservative populace in ways few others have in a long time. You and others have problems with her, big deal. Get use to it. She is going to do what she feels is best for Alaska and America. If that means she campaigns for other conservatives, crowds will be there whether you like it or not. Maybe just maybe we will get the House and Senate back. Right now I don’t care if she runs for President. Baby steps first. Look at the big picture.
Hard to say that when you owe a half a million dollars and the house payment is due in two days.
The truth of the matter is it takes millions to run for office. No money, no ticket.
Funny, I do not recall Palin running against Obama, I thought it was McCain against Obama.
The odd thing about your posts is you make such obvious cognition errors, your foundation seems always to include a lie or glaring error. I find you puzzling. If you are a republican, (see Free Republic above) you seem to be suffering DEMentia. As our union dissolves into the Haters and the Doers, it seems you think like a hater and wear a doer hat.
Sigh, all that blather above for a troll after all.
Well, she said that she’s going to be even more visible now out of office.
So who knows.
Perhaps she was just bluffing and is really leaving to have a quite home life again with her long suffering family. I hope so.
But if she’s going to be running all around grabbing all the headlines and sucking up all the oxygen in the Republican party the way Bill Clinton did when he left office, then she will be doing more harm than good.
It just remains to be seen now.
Palin was on a ticket that ran and lost against 0bama.
People aren’t that dumb. They know when they’re having deja vu.
Mondale tried to avenge his and Carter’s loss in 1984, and that didn’t work out so well either.
Same with Both Dewey and Stevenson.
Sarah may not be terribly articulate, but I don’t think she is dumb enough to go down that road.
I agree that most on FR that have backed the potential candidacy of Sarah Palin as President were probably backers of Duncan or Fred. I personally wanted Duncan as President and Palin as VP. All anybody heard that backed Duncan was he can’t win. No name recognition, not enough money even though he consistently had best answers for America at the debates. If everybody spent time backing him instead of giving all the reasons he couldn’t win it would have been a closer race and the conservative principals would have had their day.
What I am wondering about is those that are the most vocal about Palin in a negative way are just as afraid of her popularity as the Dems are. In other words they do not want a conservative President. They want a moderate. To rip Palin on this latest move she made is just a different day, different hour, different issue than what they did to her 48 hours ago. Similar as the naysayers of Duncan around here except Sarah Palin has hit a grand slam with the PEOPLE and the money usually follows such popularity. So now the moderate Republicans must find other reasons to bring Palin down, no mercy, no consideration, no understanding.
It would be nice if Freepers would identify their ideology more clearly instead if ripping potential candidates in the Republican party to pieces. All because they do not agree with their policies and beliefs about Governments role in their lives.
The Republican party is a very big tent. I am clearly a Solid Conservative and Sarah Palin is the only one out there that comes close to representing my beliefs about Government. I am waiting on other Conservatives to show up.
Trust me, if she hits the speaking tour immediately that is the image that will be put on this resignation (not about the family, not about the incessant attacks; all about money). If she is serious about 2012, I have to think that would not be in her best interests. Obviously the speaking circuit door will always be there, but right now is not the best time.
If she leaves the state they file complaints against her, the woman who has filed most of the complaints even had someone in New York she was asking how much the freaking flowers they gave Palin cost because she was going to file another complaint if Sarah didn't declare the cost of the "gift" of flowers.
In addition to her personal finances there was the absolutely horrible things the media was trying to do to her kids as well as the ankle-biters. Did you know they filed a complaint against her because Piper had a lemonaid stand at the governors mansion and another guy -- got in a wad because too many tourists were going up the street un Juneau to try and get a glimpse of her or the kids at the governors mansion. All this was costing Palin money as well as taking away from what she was trying to accomplish in the State of Alaska -- plus it was costing the state a whole lot of money.
BEfore you and others throw stones perhaps you should actually look at what she has been going through because she had the audacity of accepting McCain's invite to run for Veep last year and stand in her shoes for a while...
You don’t believe she is entitled to raise enough money to pay off her legal fees? Would you prefer she file bankruptcy? Did YOU donate to the fundraiser a couple of weeks ago?
Exactly! It actually really ticked me off that McCain spent two years running for President instead of representing the State of Arizona — not that he has EVER done one thing for Arizona.
I do no like McLame in any way, think him a RINO, amnesty loving p.o.s. and still he is heads and shoulders above this socialist punk.
Again, read what I posted intead of making knee-jerk comments. Guarantee you that if she started a legal fund she would have the money and then some in days. This has been pointed out time and again and I am sure she probably will do this shortly and do not blame her.
But, if she immediately embarks on a whirlwind speaking tour commanding big dollars (like we all know is possible) I think it has the potential to blow up in her face. Just simply stating the obvious, but it is more fun to be reactionary as I have noticed the last couple of days.
There IS a legal fund. They managed to collect 25% in a couple of weeks...
Well, there are 2 similar but clearly different arguments regarding Palin’s resigning.
One is the moral argument. That’s the argument that simply states that quitting is bad. No one called Dole a quitter when he resigned. Most people here are using the moral argument against Palin. But they have never tried to speak of morality when comparing Palins resigning with Doles resigning.
The other is the experience argument. You’re saying, and other people are saying, that it’s alright to be a “quitter” when you have enough experience.
I do understand the argument that says that Palin may not have enough experience if she doesn’t finish her term. But it’s a different argument than the one that simply calls her a “quitter”. There is no moral difference between Palin resigning and Dole resigning or someone resigning to join a Presidential administration.
If someone said “Palin is short on experience, and resigning didn’t help things.” I could at least understand that argument.
