In which case this decision was a very poor one. If she's getting out all together, and I wouldn't blame her if she did, then this is understandable. If this is some strategy to build a base and reemerge onto the national scene then she's lost enormous credibility to my mind. Nobody likes a quitter, and nobody likes a schemer. She made a commitment to the people of Alaska; it's one thing to retire, it's another to dump your current obligations for ambition.

The executive business in Alaska was being tied up by libs filing ethic violations left and right for no good reasons, only their hate. IIRC she had no violations prior to McCain tapping her last August. Since then she has had 15.

Passing off to her Lt. Governor whom she has much faith in and who will continue the job she got started, is in Alaska’s best interest. Also the Lt. Gov. will be in a good position to take on the opposition there come 2010.

May come as a shock to many both in and out of Alaska but it is a very wise choice both for Alaska and the country.
