Captured U.S. soldier was 'sold' to local insurgent group

An American soldier who went missing from a U.S. base in eastern Afghanistan was "sold" to a local militant group - which claims it will soon release a video of the captive and a list of demands, a U.S. military official said.

"Our leaders have not decided on the fate of this soldier," said a commander with the Taliban's hard-line Haqqani faction, according to Agence-France Press. "They will decide on his fate and soon we will present video tapes of the coalition soldier and our demand to media."

Supposedly he was reported missing in the morning and apparently left a small base without his weapons. Very odd.

Reminiscent of the muslim American soldier in Iraq who staged his own kidnapping and ended up in Lebanon with family.

Don't know. Definitely prayers for him if innocent.

Seems as I recall a US solider went missing in Iraq a few years ago and considered kidnapped by the terrorists. Yet he eventually turned up and it was thought he was a willing participant. I've googled and not found the story about it.

Am I remembering wrong? Does anyone else recall this?
