Oh yes, he went there. We’ve been having a running debate on Twitter this afternoon about Sarahcuda and my contention that criticism of her is verboten among righty blog readers, HA’s included. This thread will be an interesting test case. Most of the heat Kraut takes will be for his contention that “You cannot sustain a campaign of platitudes and clichés over a year and a half if you’re running for the presidency.” Didn’t Captain Hopenchange do exactly that? Well, yes and no. Granted, the most memorable line he uttered in 18 months on the trail was “Yes we can,” but he’s done countless policy interviews, debated Hillary 20 times and McCain three, and held numerous press conferences. The TOTUS jokes are fun but The One’s perfectly capable of straying off script when need be. Is Palin? She seems at ease when discussing energy or life issues but the jury’s still out on most everything else, which is why Kraut feels comfortable asserting that she hasn’t (yet) brushed up on national policy the way we all thought she would.

Oh, well, then I guess we may as well go home and put aside these silly notions anyone Kraut says is unfit can possibly win and govern apropriately as defined by the people not the establishment.
On second thought? Perhaps it would be more fair to give him the same serious notice he grants Palin. :)
Don’t get me wrong. On some issues the man is golden. But everything out of Kraut’s mouth is not objective analysis. Watch him start in on embryonic stem cell research and facts suddenly become foreign to him.
That he can seriously grant Obama was a serious candidate while rejecting a woman with a resume more substantial, well, he loses my attention.
The only person who can erase this perception of Governor Palin is Governor Palin herself. If she is considering running in ‘12, then she needs to be visible right now. On real issues, on TV every day. Just like BHO was.
Sarah Palin drew huge crowds and she got them going without benefit of big name entertainers giving free concerts. People stood in line for hours in hot sun and rain to see her.
She was hamstrung during the campaign due to her commitment to tow McCain’s line and not ruin things for him (he did that all by himself). Sarah was allowed only a little leeway to show America her character and charm, yet she sparkled and drew conservatives to their feet.
Post campaign she has been through so much with every dem in AK attempting to harpoon her on the flimsiest of procedural garbage and she prevailed.
I have no idea what she has studied in the last few months and I try hard to keep up with most anything written about her. I cannot fathom how everyone else seems to know what is in her head. I have seen no articles asking what her opinion is of Iran, central America, the Iraqi pullout, or much of anything else. Most of what I find is hateful.
I really wish someone would interview her and ask about current events around the world. I will bet dollars to donuts that she has been a much better student than many would think.

Sarah does not need to become a "policy wonk." Reagan wasn't a policy wonk, he just understood conservative principles and believed in them. That is all I want to see from Sarah. Policy wonks are a dime a dozen and I would not vote for one of them to become president. Like Reagan, Sarah can bring policy wonks in to implement her policies.
If Sarah continues to connect to the people and can show that she has Reagan's innate understanding of conservative principles, as she seems to have done in Alaska, then she can bring in all the policy wonks later.
I think there is a lot of wishful thinking going on because the rest of the Republican line-up is so disappointing.
She’s still a very young player on the national stage. She has the intelligence and toughness to be a champion, but she was badly mishandled by the McCain campaign.
To expect her to rise to a leadership position at such an early stage of her career is not fair to her. Ronald Reagan didn’t become the leader he was overnight.
Not only that, but the Republicans need to purge itself of the self-destructive moderates who are running the show before it can expect to take on the Democrats. Palin can be the second coming of Margarate Thatcher, and the moderates will just stab her in the back.

After the election, Ann said that Sarah ought to go back to Alaska and spend the next eight years reading constitutional law. I agree. As bright as she is, there are gaps in her knowledge, which means there are going to be gaps in her ability to address issues of national policy. She can plug those gaps herself with some diligence. Then she will be unstoppable.
No, people are saying he’s not a conservative because he’s not a conservative. Does he even define himself as one? If you honestly think this is about Sarah you’ve clearly missed the threads about social issues on which SoCons have clashed with his opinions before. Other threads you’ll find people against the war ostensibly on the “right” who classify him as a “neo con”. I agree with him on the war, disagree on social issues. But let’s not pretend there haven’t been clashes here about his opinons before in the past.
Absolutely she does! Sarah Palin is a conservative American who happens to be in the Republican Party. Much as Reagan was.
Just like I said on another thread a few days ago, the Neocons & their sycophants in the MSM are already beginning to trash Palin & prevent any reporting of positive news about her from being known. They want her air-brushed out of the picture.
Granted, I am not a Palin supporter (not just yet, anyway), ‘cuz I doubt of she has the respect for the Constitution & the limitation of federal power over the States as Rep. Ron Paul has....but I don’t appreciate seeing her being spat upon, either ‘cuz I respect her.
That makes two of us. I find YOUR judgement lacking as well.
Let me know how Sarah works out for you. It may turn out the last time a nominee I supported and the last time a nominee you supported actually WON turned out to be the same one.
